i dont exactly know what it is about this one that kills me every time, but this is totally in my top 3 songs of 2004. its something about the new-porno tone of the guitars, mixed with the relatively simple-sounding piano. its poignant and punchy in all the right places.

by the way, im hoping for exactly one more new pornographers album. anybody heard anything about this possibility?

know nothing about new album, but the song in question is classiznic.

Totally classic. And used to great effect during the opening segment of a recent episode of "The O.C."

Looking for a source to give you, but I read recently that the New Porno's were currently recording the new disc (because Neko has a solo studio album coming out soon and will be touring for a year, so Newman wanted to record all her parts before she got super busy)

Chuckling at the Tomkat's Marquee (Ben Boyer), Monday, 10 January 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

Is this song on the album?
I haven't really cottoned to the LP, but "Miracle Drug" is as a great a song as any of his others, and I guess I'll have to give this one a closer listen.

whoa - i had no idea it was on the OC... yeah, huk - its song 3 on the slow wonder. im glad everyone agrees on this. way to go, everyone.

i wish you'd started this thread sooner, maybe i would've included this song on my pand j ballot...totally great, totally forgot about it.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 10 January 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

It's not that great, is it? It just sounds like a pleasant less-hyper New Pornographers song.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

One of the few songs on the album that I really like a lot.

derrick (derrick), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

OTM on your description, nabisco, but if it were on either of the NP albums, i think id still put it in the top 3 or 4 of the album. and that qualifies it as totally great in my book.

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 10 January 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

I like this song a lot - and Slow Wonder was unfairly slept on.

i'm amused at how teen dramas have killed the video music star.

seriously... OC, smallville, etc etc... where else to see dizze rascal/walkmen/ac newman video? not on mtv surely. no, the teen drama!

i like "the town halo" more i think. cello as booty bass.

"town halo" was my favorite until "on the table" asserted itself...

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

"on the table" is rather assertive... down right forward, imho.
