about the 'wistful repertoire' discussion...

Is it really possible to "dismantle" a song in such a way that its' performance, production and so on wont be of any value at all? I'm not sure such thing is even possible- apart of the theoretical aspect of course; that is, a song stripped out of his "body" would simply the notes written on a paper. When a song is written, it lives straight away in his creator's mind- it's got a specific sound, so to speak, and generally a frame in which it will eventually come out. Of course, this is how I see it... Then if it is indeed so- then how can we think of a song as 'wistful', energetic, happy and so on when examining it's "theoretical" structure? For me, songs are what they are- as we hear them, imagine them, perform them and so on- and it's the whole thing that brings us to tears, dance, smile, think etc'...

What do you think..?

some songs you can practically dimantle to bare bones and they're still instantly recognisable - such as Soft Cell's Tainted Love...

maybe like multi-generational photocopying, maybe you could see how much detail you could lose before identification is lost.
