'for'

hmmm (hmmm), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

My God, there are some great records there and lots of terrible ones too! Series one is so much better than series two, but even so, there are still a good few things there I wouldn't mind landing on my face. Good luck to the guy selling them, he's going to make a tidy little sum.

Eek, five years ago I would have lost my shit over that.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Current bid: US $4,500.00

Yeah, the White Stripes one is good, John Peel played the shit out of that when it first came out. First time I ever heard them and one of their best things too perhaps.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Are their Beefheart covers available elsewhere BTW?

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

well, people did joke back in the day that they would be able to put their kids through college by selling off their records... looks more like a meal plan or a years worth of books!

How will each record be stored and shipped to me if I win the auction?

Each vinyl 45 has been taken out of the picture sleeve and washed with a special alcohol-based groove cleaner, then wiped with a clean soft cloth. The record was then placed in a high-quality white stiff paper sleeve. I also placed some .28 acid-free cardboard in the original picture sleeve, to preserve the sleeve and prevent folds, ringwear and other damage. The original polybags were removed, as they showed massive signs of ringwear and clouding. The sleeved vinyl, its original paper sleeve (if available), and the picture sleeve were replaced into a protective polyethylene 7-inch clear sleeve bag, with a resealable flap. I placed a sticker on the back of the flap to prevent tampering and to preserve freshness - yes, this borders on anal retentiveness, but don't you want the best quality for your records?

Hey, if you're going to pay 4,500 dollars for a record collection, it better be in good condition.

Im surprised Luna is the one he's missing.

David Allen (David Allen), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Huh. If you had the patience, you could certainly assemble that entire collection one at a time for less money...

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

time = money, tho

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Rich people don't need patience. Nor do they need oxygen -- they have a secret artificial supplement.

David Allen (David Allen), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"time = money" = eBay's raison d'etre

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I get the whole "time = money" thing, but I also think "record shopping = fun," and there really is something to be said for finding one of the things on your all-time-must-find list at a reasonable price. It only happens every so often, and it happens less and less frequently as the years go on (assuming your collection continues to grow and certain hard-to-find records continue to go up in price), but a ton of the magic of collecting in the first place is lost if you just drop $5k on a complete collection and be done with it.

Unless you think the winner's gonna have trouble drumming up that Luna record. When the auction ends I'm totally gonna email the winner and offer my copy of the Luna 7" to them for $400 with FREE SHIPPING!
