This actually looks like it might be a good series. As I mentioned on he Oum Kalthoum thread, I was that I was unfamiliar with the recommended recording under her name in the world music guide, and I was happy that it was from the 30s, rather than the usual recommendations like Al Atlal or Inta Omry from the 60s.

There's one for popular standards that I might take a look at.

Youssou N'Dour was involved with the world music one in some way, which might explain the unexpected deep catalog knowledge of Oum Kalthoum.

I read through the bluk of this and the writing is incredibly bad, like lazy afternoon ILM posts. My initial impression that it might be something out of the ordinary was wrong.
