aaaawwwwww squirrel

.adam (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

Ardillito!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

whoops! Ardillita.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

Squirrels are cute and all, but if you think about it, their face is literally a nutsack.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

Now that I think on it, it would totally rule if Buckethead joined My Bloody Valentine.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Donut Christ, this month's MOJO claims Chinese Democracy will be out this spring. They quote Tommy Stinson saying:

"It's a little like the old Guns, but a lot deeper lyrically. There more introspective and socially minded stuff, and musically it takes a lot more risks."

The Man Who Cried "Wolf!", Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Well, that sounds alright then.

.adam (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

"socially minded" Guns N Roses???

Like Civil War?

.adam (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

I think the fact that Jandek has made a public appearance (albeit unannounced) and played live before either album has been released says a lot.

donut christ (donut), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

Hahah, too true, that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

i thought the new MBV was gonna be a new Kevin Shields album instead?

chris andrews (fraew), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 23:40 (twenty years ago)

i thought the new MBV was gonna be a new Kevin Shields album instead?

Featuring Buckethead, I hope.

martin m. (mushrush), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

or Jandek

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Tuesday, 11 January 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

My money's on G'n'R, but it's gonna suck, of course.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:09 (twenty years ago)

Nustsack!

hector (hector), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

My money's on G'n'R, but it's gonna suck, of course.

But will it suck more or less than that Velvet Revolver dreck? Cause really I just want to know if it will be Axl or Duff with the last laugh.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

(And my money's on Axl. It used to be Duff only cause he was one of the many brief-stint drummers for the Fastbacks, but he totally fucked himself in the eye with the utter goatshit mediocrity that is Velvet Revolver.)

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

I blame Matt Sorum, Scott Whelan and Johnny Baldheaded-Noname for the yawn-inducing suckitute of Velvet Revolver, no matter how many Ramones t-shirts they sport. I still think Duff and Slash could come up with something better.

Axl? He's beyond hope at this point.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

Is MBV having the same sort of can't live up to the hype problem as GNR? I didn't even realize MBV was still around or promising a follow up.

Triple Ho, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

Is Kevin Shields recording ANYTHING???

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:50 (twenty years ago)

He's relaxing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:51 (twenty years ago)

Primal Scream, re-mixes, movie soundtracks, etc. I'm sure he's fiddling with something SOMEwhere.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:51 (twenty years ago)

Axl? He's beyond hope at this point.

Nah, I agree. I was just putting him above Duff in a lesser of two evils kinda way. Like, cream of the crap, you know?

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

Slash doesn't count, cause he's like the only one left in either band who is fucken rock. His only downfall is that apparently he just doesn't care any more.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:54 (twenty years ago)

"any more"? when did he ever really care? guy's a clown.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

Primal Scream, etc
Yeah, it's weird and ultimately slightly annoying how he'll show up on the odd Dot Allison or J. Mascis track.

Velvet Revolver
Did anybody see that "Rise of Velvet Revolver" thing on VH-1, about their search for a singer? It was kind of hilarious.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

Did anybody see that "Rise of Velvet Revolver" thing on VH-1, about their search for a singer? It was kind of hilarious.

Yeah. I also read an article about them on tour which included a few choice moments that had me choking on airline peanuts from laughing.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

[Mark Trail] Actually, that's a chipmunk. [/Mark Trail]

contribute, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

a chipmunk
David Seville: Ready Tommy? Ready Buckethead? Ready Axl? Axl? Axl? Axl? AAXXLLLL!!!!

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

[Mark Trail] Actually, that's a chipmunk. [/Mark Trail]

My comment still stands, Mr. Trail:

Face = Nutsack.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

My money's on Syd Barrett!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

No mention of SMiLE yet, but mentions of Jandek.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

My money's on Chinese Democracy.

Is there even a next MBV record?

Chinese Democracy will be a fascinating, yet shitty, mess.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Did anybody see that "Rise of Velvet Revolver" thing on VH-1, about their search for a singer? It was kind of hilarious.

Did you see the Frontline on the record industry that focused on Velvet Revolver, and how some label was really banking on them? Hilarious as well.

David Allen (David Allen), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

Did you see the Frontline on the record industry that focused on Velvet Revolver, and how some label was really banking on them?

Heheh... I saw that too. My favorite scene (as with just about any "insider" view of the industry) is the one where the two industry stiffs in an office put "the new single" in and listen to it, gently nodding their heads to the music and looking as inspired as a loaf of bread.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Right, like when Mr. Kinkaid is sitting at the little round table at the back at the Partridge Family gig.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Don't be fucking dissing bread loaves now, Martin. I've had some pretty damned inspired butter-top herbed potato bread!

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Don't be fucking dissing bread loaves now, Martin

I was going to say "turnip" and at the last minute decided "loaf of bread" was less inspired.

It's entirely possible I was wrong.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

You know, if Kevin Shields ever releases a Loveless follow-up, I don't think I'll buy a copy or even bother to listen to it. Is it possible that it would sound fresh and interesting in 2014? But more to the point, fuck that guy.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

Man, you're mean. I do like the fact he actually really doesn't need to release anything again under that name, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

Bastard, expecting us to wait OVER A DECADE for an album's follow-up; bro oughta just concede defeat.

(of course, just cause I won't buy a copy doesn't mean I won't download one.)

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

I DEMAND SHIELDS/ROSE COLLABO

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

It's entirely possible I was wrong.

Your greater point is correct though. A loaf of bread, a relatively uninspired object mostly, is at least as inspired as two record industry people representing Velvet Revolver.

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

play a vaccuum cleaner over every Slash solo on Appetite For Destruction for a taste

(x-post)

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

The Bloody Roses

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

"OK, Buckethead replacement, use more tremelo and whammy bar action on that solo.."

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

I'm imagining Axl singing on "When You Sleep." I am so grateful this thread exists.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

and I'm not talking about that "Patience" murmur of his. I'm talking full-on wail (like his MTV Awards cameo on "Free Fallin'" if you've heard it).

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

*is starting to crack up at these various images*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

"Sometimes" is another good number for Axl to take over. Imagine if they looped his voice like they do Butcher's on "What You Want." Ye gods.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

"Close my eyes...IN THE CAWAWAAWALD NOVEMBER RAAAAAAAIN."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

If Fred Durst has big-upped Loveless on his blog it's quite possible Axl is more than aware of its existence.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

I think you mistake how many people read his blog outside of yourself and your friends. (I mean this kindly.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

"FEEEEEED ME WITH YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOR KISS.... YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAH!"

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Thing is, I wouldn't really be shocked if Colm joined GNR!

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

I think you mistake how many people read his blog outside of yourself and your friends

I just mean Axl could be aware of it (dude was into Pretty Hate Machine), not that he reads Durst's blog.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

And I read his blog so that my friends don't have to.

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

I thought Izzy wrote all the songs for GnR?

57 7th (calstars), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

Axl should hire Courtney to hire Bobby Gillespie to hire Andrew Weatherall to talk to Kevin Shields about writing the new GNR album.

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

they would get so high

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

"hey Kevin, sorry I came in 13 hours later than I was supposed to. Somebody took my photo while I was eating cake."

"quiet, Axl. I'm not done setting the levels on the hi-hat."

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

chipmunks redux:
DS: Ready, Tommy?
TS: Ready, Dave.
DS: Ready, Buckethead?
BH: Ready, Dave.
DS: Ready, Kevin? Kevin? Kevin??? KEEEVVVVIIINNNN!!!!!

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

Why do I find the funniest thing about Ken's dialog post to be the fact that Buckethead is abbreviated "BH" for his line?

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

I also am laughing here because I'm imagining actually recording that. Of course Tommy and Buckethead's voices will have to be chipmunk pitchshifted, but I keep thinking of how Buckethead will sound chipmunk'd and with a ton of reverb so it sounds like his voice is in a cave.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

Want a phase that loops-the-loop
Me, I want that gui-tar swoop!

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

Well, what's even funnier is that Buckethead got canned from GNR for "not being one for all and all for one" to paraphrase Axl's press release.

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

donut are you saying we should redo the gag without buckethead? cause from where i sit, no buckethead, no gag.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

I'd take it a step further and say, no Buckethead, no amazing album. See my comments way above re: Buckethead on the MBV follow up album.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Hey, you DID make suchlike comments. You mean I have to READ the thread before I post to it?!?

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

You mean I have to READ the thread before I post to it?!?

Nah, that's optional. I do, however, usually remember what I've posted to a thread in the past couple days.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

I always imagine Cher's "Believe" as performed by Creed for some reason.

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 13 January 2005 08:07 (twenty years ago)

Just listened to MBV Loveless last night. It doesn't seem very good any more.

Triple Ho, Thursday, 13 January 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

Triple I think your copy might be broken.

Sansai, Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)
