rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It's hideous.

Derrick May (or so he says, think someone else may have "co" produced??)

LSTD (answer) (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, that looks godawful in print. Anyone got an MP3?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Derrick May is and always has been Rhythim is Rhythim. The piano on SOL is a sample from an original piece by one of his friends. Frankie Knuckles was the first DJ to play it.
That remake sounds like it was made by a cloth-eared 12 year-old.

Oh God, I heard this on TMF (UK ref). Fucking mare. One of those shit lad-maggy videos and everything. Sacrilege not too strong a word.

I like it - Danny Krivit re-edit is the version you want. It goes down well in the clubs. Thye're about to give it propoer release i think - i admit that it would be a bit strange if it became a huge hit.

the Danny Krivit instrumental remix of the original Soul Central instrumental version of the original Derrick May "Strings Of Life", is quite good.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

aahh - just had a quick look on the web. The version that was released in the uk on monday must have a vocal on. I haven;t heard this but i can believe that is is awful. The danny krivit remix is an instrumental and a good tune in my opinion

x-post

Robin Goad (rgoad), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd like to hear it at least. there was a flurry of 'strings of life' activity ten years ago when Ash Beedle remixed it (competent if rather pointless) and a cheeky reworking called 'strings ain't what they used to be' was released by Astrofarm. i vaguely recall Muzik magazine bitching about both quite a bit, to my bemusement (i can't remember if i really knew the original at this point ten years ago).

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i remember that "strings ain't what they used to be" record. more like "will anyone NOT cringe when they hear pizzicato strings
i actually like the beedle remix, though. it's nice

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, watching the video now. Its a terrible lap dancing thing, and the vocals don't exactly ruin it, just seem pointless

where's the vid at?
