MARTIN YOU SO CRAZY!

Goat Willow, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

Actually I was serious about that track being brilliant.

If you want to call me out cause you think I'm not "edgy" enough for you or because you think my comments are stupid, log in and do it in person, you anonymous ass.

martin m. (mushrush), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

Down boy.

There are NINE songs on ABWH. How can you pick ten? Or were going to use songs from Union, too?

Goat Willow, Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:53 (twenty years ago)

There are NINE songs on ABWH

Yeah, that was intended as a subtle joke in my post.

On the other hand, more than one song (including the one I indicated) are divided into multiple parts that might as well be separate songs.

Rocco, Thursday, 13 January 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

Haven't we done this before? (well, sort of):

OPO/OOP: YES - Get Yer Prog On!

I repeat:

1) "Gates of Delerium" (Relayer)
2) "And You and I" (Close to the Edge)
3) "To Be Over" (Relayer)
4) "Awaken" (Going for the One)
5) "Turn of the Century (Going for the One)
6) "Siberian Khatru" (Close to the Edge)
7) "Starship Trooper (The Yes Album)
8) "Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil) - Live version" (Yesshows)
9) "Survival" (Yes)
10) "Something's Coming" (Yesstories)

Well, actually, I'd probaby replace "Survival" with "South Side of the Sky".

A more interesting POX would be Yes post-Drama. I humbly suggest:

1) I'm Running (Big Generator)
2) Hearts (90125)
3) Brother of Mine (ABWH)
4) Cinema/Leave It (90125)
5) The More We Live - Let Go (Union)
6) Where Will You Be (Talk)
7) Homeworld (The Ladder)
8) Give Love Each Day (without the crap orchestra intro) (Magnification)
9) Themes (ABWH)
10) It Can Happen (90125)

Joe (Joe), Saturday, 15 January 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

not in order (i am a recent convert to being yessed-out):

1. starship trooper
2. roundabout
3. gates of delirium
4. yours is no disgrace
5. survival
6. owner of a lonely heart
7. south side of the sky
8. ritual (nous sommes du soleil)
9. siberian khatru
10. i've seen all good people

"A more interesting POX would be Yes post-Drama. I humbly suggest:"

Real Love
Masquerade
Lift Me Up
Without Hope You Cannot Start the Day
Hold On
Lightning Strikes/Can I?/Face to Face
It Can Happen
Holding On
Take the Water to the Mountain
New Languages

Eddie Offord, Saturday, 15 January 2005 03:57 (twenty years ago)

"hold on" "holding on"

chaki in charge (chaki), Saturday, 15 January 2005 04:00 (twenty years ago)

The intro to "Survival" is amazing but I find the song a little too twee (even by Yes standards).

sundar subramanian (sundar), Saturday, 15 January 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

Hold On (90125)
Holding On (Union) (I like this one better, too)

There's a lot of repetition in their lyrics! "Movement," "we have heaven," etc.

Eddie Offord, Saturday, 15 January 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

Lift Me Up
Hold On

Good choices. I wanted to get these two onto my post-Drama list. "Lift Me Up" is a great I-IV-V'er with good fit between Anderson/Rabin/Squire vocals, though rather killed by the overbaked AOR production. "Hold On" for the wacky last verse: "Talk the simple smile such platonic eye how they move in incomplete capacity etc" and also the chorus round (i.e., "Hold On Hold On..." mixing with "Sunshine Shine On...") at the end.

Joe (Joe), Saturday, 15 January 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

"Hold On" is great! It's so tweaked--"talk the simple smile . . . I believe in eternity!" etc--especially for a band like 15 years into it. That's one of the things about these guys that's never much mentioned. Their heyday may have been circa 70-75 but they continue to put fresh songs together sometimes as though they're just starting out. I guess Drama and 90125 were basically new bands, so that accounts for that. But once I gave The Ladder a chance (after having given up on the four preceding it--The Keys to Ascensions, Open Your Eyes, and Talk) it killed me. Not bad for an album released 30 years after starting out. Off the top of my head the most comparable achievement, at least to me, is The Cure's Disintegration, which I think is their strongest album, and that came out ten years after they started. Or Dylan's Time Out of Mind might be closer--not the greatest thing he's done, but pretty damn great, and released so far past his sell-by date as to be inspiring. If only Magnification were anywhere near as good as Love & Theft. . . .

Eddie Offord, Saturday, 15 January 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

I'm still kinda sad that Ally chose not to play the remix of "Tempus Fugit" I sent her on her show. Oh well.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 5 January 2006 04:53 (nineteen years ago)

eddie offord would have better sense than to pick "homeworld" I'd think

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

no, sorry geir, there is no eddie oford. it was just me way back when.

xpost

"homeworld" is epic in the way "cinema/leave it" is: new yes, where you're just like, what the fuck, how come they can do this and no one else can

prince rupert, Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:50 (nineteen years ago)

and geir, i was karl malone, correcting myself, and goat willow, listening to hawkwind, stoned probably, thinking about what it was like when both those bands were releasing new shit.

prince rupert, Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:54 (nineteen years ago)

Ah yes, it's just about midnight.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 5 January 2006 05:58 (nineteen years ago)

Bound to be a lot of consensus on a POX for a band where you can pick most of their major albums in X tracks.

Herman G. Neuname is the first European president (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 09:53 (sixteen years ago)

dude just be happy i have seen the light re: awaken

my fave thing to do on the computer is what im doing right now (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 09:55 (sixteen years ago)

it is seriously challenging for top spot

my fave thing to do on the computer is what im doing right now (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 09:56 (sixteen years ago)

It seems mad pointless to do a POX cos of like I said, but mine would make some room for "Sweetness" and "Pwner of a Lonely Heart", other than that business as usual.

"Awaken" is wintry which helps right now

Herman G. Neuname is the first European president (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 09:59 (sixteen years ago)

lol @ the idea of a GYBE POX

GET THAT BABY JESUS RIGHT UP YE (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 10:00 (sixteen years ago)

I think I wd probably leave anything from TfTO out cos it's its own thing.

Herman G. Neuname is the first European president (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 10:01 (sixteen years ago)

i guess. i mean i like bits from it but haven't remotely managed to comprehend the thing; you just get lost in it and hold on grimly for patrick 'jason' mraz iirc

GET THAT BABY JESUS RIGHT UP YE (acoleuthic), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 10:06 (sixteen years ago)

Much as I loathe Rick Wakeman with the same passion as any sentient being who is aware of him does, he was vaguely otm in noting that the band's tune ears went AWOL during that album.

Herman G. Neuname is the first European president (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 25 November 2009 10:07 (sixteen years ago)

two years pass...

Me on Going For The One.

Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Sunday, 12 August 2012 12:59 (thirteen years ago)

Been getting nice with "Gates of Delirium" this week. Wow.

Nate Carson, Sunday, 12 August 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

Gosh that's an excellent piece, Marcello. Thank you!

Loo Reading (Capitaine Jay Vee), Sunday, 12 August 2012 20:55 (thirteen years ago)

yep. really enjoyed that.

"Gates of Delirium" and in fact, the entire Relayer album as a whole seems to be quite underrated. "Sound Chaser" has some real superfluous quiet sections (what 10-minute Yes tracks don't?) but that wacky funk riff really cooks

frogbs, Sunday, 12 August 2012 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

one year passes...
