I say, let's go throw eggs at the inauguration. Or go into some of the inaguration tents and fart. Or ejaculate into the punch bowl. Or something.

Word.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

George clinton and Chuck Brown at the 930 Club is sold out.

There are anti-inaugural events and protests too.

steve-k, Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

Isn't there a Dan Flavin exhibit at the National Gallery? I'd want to see that.

mcd (mcd), Thursday, 13 January 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

I think it just closed. Miro and Calder is still at the Phillips.

steve-k, Thursday, 13 January 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

ohmygod - dan flavin is the light-dude, right? that exhibit totally ruled.

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 13 January 2005 18:10 (twenty years ago)

Some of the d.j.'s at the St. Ex lounge up the street from Black Cat on 14th St (near the intersection with U St) NW are pretty good.

"The Not My President Counter-Inaugural punk Rock Show" w/ Q and Not U, Anti-Flag, 1905, and Del Cielo is Thursday 1-20 from
7 to 11 at the Sanctuary Theater/Casa del Puebo Methodist Church at 1459 Columbia Rd. for $5

Here's a funny one--the Record Industry Assoc. of America(RIAA) Party with a set by 3 Doors Down from 10 to 3 a.m. at H20 in SW Dc for $1,000. Actually it's to be expected but sad how many expensive lobbyist government for sale events are going on...

steve-k, Friday, 14 January 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Awww, I hear the Bush girls are upset that the Republican powers that be won't let them have Kid Rock perform...

steve-k, Friday, 14 January 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

This is what you need to do:

The "President for a Day Package."

For only $10,000 a day, you get to be treated like the presdient--phony secret service guards, limos, the whole bit. Too bad they don't let you have the nuclear launch codes.

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Friday, 14 January 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

A group of 4 or 5 dudes i know is taking a field trip to DC to see ENVY this weekend. ENVY, DUDE

Friday 1-14-George Clinton and Chuck Brown at the 930 Club

wow

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 15 January 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

I bet it was great. Nelson George on his blog loved George Clinton with TV on the Radio in Brooklyn earlier in the week, while Julianne Shepherd on her blog said George Clinton and band was a self-indulgent mess. Maybe they both were right! The Washington Post now has Chuck Brown doing tv commercials for them where he says that the Post is an institution just like him.

So the Bush twins are getting Jojo as the performer for the "youth" event. I remember that when Bill Clinton was inaugurated they had free music on the mall under tents and at a big stage. I recall seeing Aretha, Aaron Neville, Los Lobos and more. Not that I'd wanna go to anything this year, but there are no events for the public anyway! Lyle Lovett is the only halfway decent artist at any of the invitation only big Republican bucks events anyway.

steve-k, Sunday, 16 January 2005 05:51 (twenty years ago)

Saw on tv more concrete barricades being brought into town. Ugh, this is democracy.

steve-k, Sunday, 16 January 2005 05:54 (twenty years ago)

Anybody see Japanese rockers Envy, or Chuck Brown and Clinton?

steve-k, Monday, 17 January 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

Lyle Lovett is the only halfway decent artist at any of the invitation only big Republican bucks events anyway.

And in Lyle's defense, I think that's mostly b/c of La Connecion Tejas...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Monday, 17 January 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

Yea, you're right. Chain link fences being set up everywhere, roads closed, security everywhere...I'm staying in the 'burbs til Friday.

steve-k, Wednesday, 19 January 2005 03:16 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

in town this weekend -- is this Sunday night event at the Black Cat a recurring thing?

Sun May 25- DJ Dredd Presents: PRINCE vs. THE WORLD Dance Party w/ Live Visuals by OPTICAL GROOVES $12 Mainstage 9:00

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 22 May 2008 13:36 (seventeen years ago)
