This, I'm guessing, is to offset Stew Copeland and Andy Summers playing "Roxanne" with Incubus at Red Rocks.

Stripped Down and RAW

He's a bit gristly by now, isn't he?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Phantom Planet also opened for Elvis Costello a while back. I wonder if the kids in Phantom Planet spend a lot of time pretending it's still 1978.

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Thursday, 13 January 2005 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if the kids in Phantom Planet spend a lot of time pretending it's still 1978.

Perhaps when they're not preening or pretending that they are Weezer.

martin m. (mushrush), Thursday, 13 January 2005 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

If only Sting could pretend it's still 1978.

donut christ (donut), Thursday, 13 January 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Dominic Miller and Shane Fontayne on guitars and JOSH FREESE on drums
I'm attending the final show April 30th at the Borgata in AC. I have no idea what to expect.

bahtology, Thursday, 13 January 2005 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i've always hated sting and the police

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Thursday, 7 April 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

bad for you

great for others

broohaha, Thursday, 7 April 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

"The Bed's Too Big Without You" has been added to the set list, after "Synchronicity II". "Lithium Sunset" has been dropped and "Every Breath You Take" is now the closer.

bahtology, Saturday, 16 April 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

"The Bed's Too Big without You" is a great song. He just dropped in yesterday on an English class at the University of Wisconsin. He played last night at one of Madison's arenas. I wonder if they talked about "Don't Stand So Close to Me," or maybe "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da."

Bucky, Saturday, 16 April 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

He just dropped in yesterday on an English class at the University of Wisconsin

Did he talk about that book by Nabokov?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 17 April 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

We made that joke many times once we heard. That or Chaucer and Ten Sumner's Tales jokes. We were very excited though. There were cops outside the Engligh building to protect him. We thought maybe he was getting an honorary PhD.

Bucky, Sunday, 17 April 2005 00:41 (twenty years ago)

sting still sucks

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Sunday, 17 April 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

Dr. Sting

Bucky, Sunday, 17 April 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

There were cops outside the Engligh building to protect him.

Ah, the Police.

*flees*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 17 April 2005 01:47 (twenty years ago)

"King Of Pain" replaced "The Soul Cages", and "Lithium Sunset" is back as the closer. "Desert Rose" is now part of the first encore.

This set list is getting better with every show.

glarbage, Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

What was the name of that Atom and His Package song again? "Sting Cannot Possibly Be the Same Person Who Was In The Police"?

Waking Up Onstage at Jumbo's (Bent Over at the Arclight), Tuesday, 19 April 2005 23:59 (twenty years ago)

I cannot fathom how this keyboard-less four piece lineup will be able to pull off a version of Desert Rose.

meg d, Wednesday, 20 April 2005 01:26 (twenty years ago)

I just reviewed this concert. It actually was pretty dang entertaining. Drummer Josh Freese makes a big difference. And zero keyboards is a huge plus. Sting's voice still sounds very, very good.

Mr Deeds (Mr Deeds), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 05:18 (twenty years ago)

come off it. the boys of p.planet are nice'n'funny, but damn they suck. ignore them fockers.

kacka thompson (kacka), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 06:23 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if the kids in Phantom Planet spend a lot of time pretending it's still 1978.

Along with 50% of all indie-bands making it big now.

After this post-punk fetish, how about we make the next indie scene be jangle-pop rap? The point of reference will be Along Comes Mary by the Association. I think it's a winner of an idea!

Cunga (Cunga), Wednesday, 20 April 2005 06:42 (twenty years ago)

Desert Rose was only performed at one gig. I guess that it didn't work that well for the small lineup. That song sucks anyhow. It actually replaced Every Breath You Take for that one show. I am sure that all the soccer moms and yuppie business guys drove home wondering if it was played or not.

bahtology, Sunday, 24 April 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Ghost Story, another track from Brand New Day, was temporarily added for the Cleveland show. It was a request from a fan that prompted it's performance.

meg d, Tuesday, 26 April 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

oh drat....The Bed's Too Big Without You has been dropped from the set list for the past two performances. oh well, Saturday is going to be awesome anyhow.

bahtology, Wednesday, 27 April 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

The Bed's Too Big Without You has been interspersed into the middle section of the dragged out reggae jam during Roxanne.
