Here is a hypothetical list (which may be fer realz) of my 2004 favorites, for a start. Tell me what kind of person I am. Am I a jerk or a really cool person? Nobody cares, but it's still fun!

Phoenix "Alphabetical"
Kings of Convenience "Riot on an Empty Street"
Guided By Voices "Half Smiles of the Decomposed"
Erlend Oye "DJ Kicks"
Blonde Redhead "Misery Is A Butterfly"
Joanna Newsom "Milk-Eyed Mender"
the Unicorns "Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone"
Belle & Sebastian (ep) "Books"
Sondre Lerche "Two Way Monologue"
Morrissey (single) "First of the Gang to Die"

Be as cruel (or as nice) as you'd like! This could be a fun game. How are my clothes? Where do I hang out? Am I popular or the biggest loser to walk the planet?

Feel free to log yourself out and join in the fun!

you're me. STOP THAT.

I haven't heard all those but they're more or less up my alley so I'll recuse myself

tremendoid (tremendoid), Sunday, 16 January 2005 06:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You are quite possibly a corny indie fuXor

tremendoid (tremendoid), Sunday, 16 January 2005 07:18 (twenty-one years ago)

You're a male Caucasian in your 20s.

mottdeterre (mottdeterre), Sunday, 16 January 2005 09:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Three of logged out's favorites were also in my 2004 top 10. (Although yuck, that boring Blonde Redhead record [I used to like 'em, but zzzzzz], and double yuck, Guided by Fucking Voices)

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 16 January 2005 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm guessing you buy every record Amazon recommends to you

Andy Hart (AndyHart), Sunday, 16 January 2005 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You are cool for saying what you think. I feel it sums ILX up quite well that you feel you must do this anonymously.

KeithW (kmw), Sunday, 16 January 2005 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Maria?

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Sunday, 16 January 2005 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

you are likely to snap at any second, murdering all those around you.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 16 January 2005 13:34 (twenty-one years ago)

ANSWER:It is actually the music picks of a 34 year old Jewish chick. Upon reading it, I thought, "I want to smack her." Yet, at the same time I was mildly impressed by her ability to find this many top picks of 2004 I never heard of. I iTunesed 'em and they are the same old mopey indie crap she's been listening to for 10 years.

I don't even buy this many new released per year. I'm picking through the last 4 decades of stuff very carefully these days. The only new thing I bought last year was Scissor Sisters because my girlfriend wanted it and Camper Van Beethoven's "New Roman Times."

Yeah, you definitely sound like you're in a position to sneer at other people's taste in music

DJ Mencap0))), Sunday, 16 January 2005 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Everything's relative, doesn't that count for something? You just sneered at my taste, didn't you? Measure twice, cut once, fool.

Logged out anonymously, Sunday, 16 January 2005 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

In all honesty, the first thing I thought was "I could totally kick that guy's ass."

polyphonic (polyphonic), Sunday, 16 January 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Y'see, polyphonic, that's all I'm talking about. Assumptions! Like, if the list was all 80's glam rockers, people might assume I chew tobacco, own a truck and work construction. No reason for anyone to get in a tizzy (ahem, DJ Mencap0)))).

Logged out anonymously, Sunday, 16 January 2005 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

you are a homosexual.

shookout (shookout), Sunday, 16 January 2005 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

logged out reads pitchfork/listens to npr.

cathy berberian (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 16 January 2005 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

it's all so indie. is that Unicorns album any good?

Star Cauliflower (Star Cauliflower), Sunday, 16 January 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The Unicorns album is offbeat but not really that noteworthy. This is partially why I'm not a big new release buyer. #1 I'm not all that up on things and #2 I'll wait until something appears to have stood the test of time. #3 everything is cheaper if you wait, anyway.

Ian John50n (orion), Sunday, 16 January 2005 19:51 (twenty-one years ago)

the unicorns album is terrible, they're good live tho.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Sunday, 16 January 2005 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

You like mind-numbingly dull indie rock.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 January 2005 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

You're not that big a fan of Megadeth, overall

DJ Mencap0))), Sunday, 16 January 2005 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You actually played Wishbone Ash?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 17 January 2005 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

You had meatloaf last night. Side of mashed potatoes. Probably a green vegetable or corn. Had seconds and went heavy on the ketchup.

For lunch today, you'll consider Dinty Moore beef stew, but will decide against it in favor of a really good turkey sandwich with coleslaw.

cdwill, Monday, 17 January 2005 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

You're all wearing Doc Martens.

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 17 January 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

In answer to the original poster:

1. You are almost certainly American, probably male, probably white, probably aged between 16 and 30.

2. You are also the sort of person who would put a hypothetical list of your supposed 2004 favorites [sic] on ILM and invite people to tell you what sort of person they think you are, based on the contents of this list - which means that you are either a misanthropic little git who is doing this using some friend or acquaintance's list of favourites because you (presumably) think that this will generate some ammunition with which to attack and humiliate them but which you don't actually posessthe wit or intellect to come up with for yourself; or that you yourself are either:
a) phenomenally bored and in desperate need of something better to do with your life if you really don't care what conclusions those people reach and have genuinely reached such a low point that you are making such post for no other reason, or;
b) an extremely sad individual if you really secretly do care what conclusions they reach.

Is there a prize for whose guesses are most accurate?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

"You're all wearing Doc Martens."

That's not much of a guess in my case - I always wear Doc Martens; in fact I've worn virtually nothing else (on my feet) for the last quarter of a century!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too.

The Mad Puffin (The Mad Puffin), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Uncanny.
