So i'm listening to "how bizarre" by omc and, while i guess it isn't dumb exactly, there's something kinda silly/amazing about all these hooks randomly connected together. so it gets my vote. along with "c'mon ride the train", maybe. what's yours? Feel free to define dumb any way you want.

Oh, and feel free to talk about "how bizarre" also, because it rules like Napoleon.

Well, don't define dumb as smart, I guess.

I have fond memories of "Wiggle," by Wanton Loveboy. Chorus goes "You gotta wiggle it, wiggle it, wiggle it, wiggle it, wiggle it, wiggle around." I forget if there's anything other than a chorus.

i hate "how bizarre". i wonder if that has anything to do with being from new zealand.

nothing to do with kiwi - i hate it too! and I'm at least 30 kilometres away from bondi.

LOUIE LOUIE is a "dumb" song? I don't think so. It's a great, beautiful song. Very inspiring.

I think How Bizarre is terrific but I don't think it's dumb.

"Welcome To The Terrordome"?

I've never heard 'Louie Louie'. I have, however, heard 'A Tisket A Tasket'. That's dumb, or silly, or whatever. Only Mark S knows, and he's not telling.

"C'Mon N' Ride It (The Train)" may be the greatest song ever. Someone else will have to explain why, but no matter how many times I hear it I don't get tired of it. Although it isn't nearly as good, I'd put "Da' Dip" in the same category.

B-but pinefox, l-look!!

I love Trio's "Drei Mann im Doppelbett". I wish that had been the big hit instead of "Da Da Da".

Pinefox, you've really never heard "Louie Louie"? Wow.

Sean, Thursday, 3 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

Miranda, I can't explain it either.

I like the part in "C'mon and ride it" where the QCDJ's go "woo woo". I guess that's every other beat in the song, but it gets me every time.

i agree with tom: 'how bizarre' is pretty savvy, i think. i will agree, though, that it seems to be a constant string of really identifiable bits. exit trumpet bit, enter girl chorus, cue the guitar riff. hearing it is like gorging on meringue.

Here's a quick quiz: which noted British entertainer stated on national radio this week that his favourite two pop records were "Louie Louie" and "Firestarter"?

Jimmy Tarbuck?

stevo, Friday, 4 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Not far off actually - it was Des O'Connor.

Blimey, what next? Max Bygraves bigging up 'They don't know'.

stevo, Friday, 4 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

No, don't know it; unless I do but don't realize it.

What about Mystikal?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 20:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've never heard 'Louie Louie'.

I've started to picture The Pinefox living on an asteroid a la Le Petit Prince, occasionally turning on his radio just to remind himself why he doesn't go back to Earth.
