big boo (+dancefloor), Monday, 17 January 2005 05:18 (twenty years ago)

that's one vote in disagreement.

supercub, Monday, 17 January 2005 05:20 (twenty years ago)

I thought that way for a long time, but for the past few years, it's been all about Discovery for me.

You must be a heterosexual.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Monday, 17 January 2005 05:26 (twenty years ago)

I liked Homework better. Not because it is a better album per se, just because it is a bit more raw and tracky. It is the difference between a mid-90's underground 12" act vibe, or a more mature "musical" dance act.

At the end of the day nothing will beat hearing Mike Dearborn or Robert Armani play Rolling and Scratching or Rock and Roll right along with the hard tracky Chicago stuff through 10' tall bassbins at midwest raves in the mid-90's.

Your playing Daft Punk for the Rock Kids at CBGB's mileage may vary.

Exactly, l like Homework for it's immediacy and intensity.

supercub, Monday, 17 January 2005 05:35 (twenty years ago)

i like homework better

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 17 January 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

though the act of discovery is indeed more fun than doing actual homework.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 17 January 2005 08:57 (twenty years ago)

i prefer discovery.

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Monday, 17 January 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

re "alive 1997": the album opens with crowd noise. about one minute in, the synth riff for "da funk" comes on, and the cheer that goes up is hair-raising. by the time the breakdown of "da funk" starts, about two minutes later, the crowd no longer sounds like humans but instead like a pack of hooting baboons. alive 1997 is the most electrifying concert album EVER. it is like high voltage cables. it is like a prison riot. james murphy knows this, too.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 17 January 2005 09:19 (twenty years ago)

hey tyler!! did you go to the whistle stop for NYE??

vahid (vahid), Monday, 17 January 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

Most people know where I stand on my Discovery/Homework deabte (Discovery being the best thing in teh evah while Homework being pretty meh in my eyes) but I really wanna hear the Alive album now!

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Monday, 17 January 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

kidkid, Monday, 17 January 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

homework because clubs >> home

Jacob (Jacob), Monday, 17 January 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

Homework is definitely better than Discovery, even though "Harder Better Faster Stronger" is the best thing Daft Punk have ever done. I haven't heard the live album, but now that I've been reminded of its existence I will go buy one. Maybe. Wait, it's one long track, right? Forget it.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Monday, 17 January 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)
