DVD PLEASE (with live footage and mad mongoloid bizness)

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

I wish they'd left off 'Bingo Bango'. Wot mix of 'Flylife' is it?

Miles Finch, Wednesday, 19 January 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

not a single bad or weak track. everyone is a gem
nice. wonder if they'll do a 2nd disc edition with remix highlights

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Miles i imagine it will be the radio edit of the single version featuring Glamma Kid (i miss him)

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

That is a near-perfect CD. Is Oh My Gosh any good?

I'm hoping that the second CD will feature that awesome live version of Living Room.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Why are they releasing a singles comp? Have they split up or left their label?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

It's 8 years since 'Flylife' -- Teh Rolling Stones and Dylan waited far less than that before doing singles comps.

Miles Finch, Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

Yes, but they also released more than three albums in that 8 year period, I'd wager.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

They've got enough classic singles to fill up a CD with seems a good enough reason to me. Better than most reasons for releasing a best of.

Is it sad to want all radio edits though?

Jedmond (Jedmond), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Yes, but they also released more than three albums in that 8 year period, I'd wager.

i'd say it's more a way to collect a bunch of non-album singles with their four (4) albums (i count the first atlantic jaxx comp as a basement jaxx album, for better or worse). why should it bother you, anyway? these days artists have to try and make something off their work through repackaging, given that at least 50-60% of their "fans" just download stuff rather than actually give them money for it.

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

50-60%? You reckon?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

Yes "Oh My Gosh" is quite good. That tracklisting = yow!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

Nick it took Groove Armada even less time to amass a singles comp.

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

wot is 'oh my gosh' like? i like the use of uncool words there, even if the streets kind of got there a year ago. i anticipate 'gor strike a light' by wiley next.

Miles Finch, Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

you can hear it on their website you know. it's predictably good.

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

I've only heard it the once so far -- starts off (I thought) surprisingly low-key for them, but that doesn't last for long. Female vocalist with a feller interjecting every so often.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Who is the female singer? She sounds so familiar but I can't place it...

Chuckling at the Tomkat's Marquee (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

what is "u don't know me" from? i don't even think i'veheard it.

adam west (adamwest), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

I hope the second disc has "Lonely"...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 18:16 (twenty years ago)

'Oh My Gosh' = meh. Maybe it'll grow on me, but on initial listens it sounds like Jaxx album filler that escaped.

Would be more excited if this featured a few more obscure mixes or b-sides. Tracks like 'Bongoloid', 'All U Crazies' or 'Span Trak' deserve a wider audience.

Graeme (Graeme), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, I just now read that bit about a second disc of b-sides and rare stuff. Strike my above post.

Graeme (Graeme), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

I mean, those are great songs, yeah. This comp is sort of a can't-miss proposition--it's just a matter of how much effort they put into sequencing, liners, etc. Some mixing would be nice too but probably won't happen. I just hope I'll have access to the ltd. edition in the US.

I second the "U Don't Know Me" question. It doesn't have anything to do with Armand Van Helden, does it?

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

i read it as "U Can't Stop Me" and assume that's what they are putting on

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

that wasn't a single, though, was it? And all those others were (except maybe "Do Your Thing," but that was in commercials and such).

You're probably right, but I'll hold out hope for something cooler.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

i suspect they're putting this out due to the fact that they have said recently they've lost an interest in club music... whatever that means for them, i do not know.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

"Oh My Gosh" is great! Playful and cute. I really want to know who that girl is though, she's brilliant.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

that wasn't a single, though, was it? And all those others were

http://www.discogs.com/release/168414

iirc, there was another white label of this doing the rounds about the same time, with 3 tracks on it

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

with 2 step mixes or something...

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

'U Don't Know Me' is a new track and will feature Lisa Kelkua (sp.) of The Bellrays once again on vocal duties

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

interesting

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

I thought "Cish Cash" was a single? I would have put it or "Get Me Off" instead of "Do You Thing".

Seb (Seb), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

i will be happy if this is released on vinyl... i haven't looked that hard, but i have had a difficult time finding jus 1 kiss

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

DVD is out March 21 with all the videos, some live tracks and "special bonus features". All this info is on the Jaxx site.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

has the other new track leaked yet?

adam west (adamwest), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

here's what's on the other disc:

Disc Two 'Bonus Disc'
1 ‘Magnificent Romeo’
2 'I Beg U’

adam west (adamwest), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

needs more stanton warriors mix of "where's yo head ATTT-ATTTT-ATTT?"

rentboy (rentboy), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

‘Magnificent Romeo’

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BEST ALBUM EVER

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

‘Romeo’ [Acoustic]

OK, maybe not . . . but close enough.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh arse. Why can't they sell the B-side comp seperately because I've obviously got everything minus the new song on the singles CD? I can't warrant paying a double album price for that.

Anyone heard any more about a fourth proper album this year? It'll have been two years since "Kish Kash".

Nick H (Nick H), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

how do we get the 7 nation army/pointer sisters/in da club bootleg again?

piscesboy, Thursday, 20 January 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

dammit 'All U Crazies' should be on that Disc 2 ahead of all the other b-sides (except 'Dreamzdub' maybe, also lacking)

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 20 January 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

7 nation army/pointer sisters/in da club/switch!

no set yo body free : (

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 January 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

jesus, and no YoYo!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 January 2005 11:44 (twenty years ago)

In Australia they've actually released two b-side comps before (touring tie-ins) so only the recent 12" inch tracks (eg. "Onyx") and "The Magnificent Romeo" will be particularly collectable.

The live version of "Living Room" was basically the vocals over the top of "Mere Pass", yeah?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 20 January 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

yes

i've got a copy of one of those b-sides comp somewhere

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 20 January 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Cish Cash was released as a single - at least it had a video (woman directing CG tanks, Helicoptors, etc in cheerleading/marching band style).

Jedmond (Jedmond), Thursday, 20 January 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

they made a video but i don't think it was shelved as a release, ala Richard X's 'You Used To'

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 20 January 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

remove the 'don't' there

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 20 January 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

Wonder if there will be a music video collection coming out round the same time.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Thursday, 20 January 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

DVD is out March 21 with all the videos, some live tracks and "special bonus features". All this info is on the Jaxx site.

bloody hell. i figured this comp was imminent. what a fucking killer album! *emails shady associate at XL*

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 20 January 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

*e-mails mum*

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 20 January 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

not about basement jaxx, so far.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 20 January 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for pointing out my blindess/impatience.

Jedmond (Jedmond), Thursday, 20 January 2005 15:33 (twenty years ago)

I've got "Oh My Gosh" on my site today for those of you who haven't heard it. Very good song.

artwork alert!! click on the right. looks luscious.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 26 January 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

'WHERE'S YOUR HEAD AT' FROM GLASTONBURY 2004 ON THE DVD!

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

this looks fantastic. but no Get Me Off?! that's ILM's favourite jaxx track, kinda!

x-post HOLY SHIT

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

yeh 'Get Me Off' actually was a single wasn't it?

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

yeah fck! glastonbury stuff all over the dvd there from 2000 and 2004.
well it'll go some way towards me having missed out BOTH times due to an over fondness for legends-on-the-main-stage (bowie/macca) action.
also all manner of 'JAXX TV' i see a la the pulp dvd! aces. shame there's no GET YA CLUB ON boot. maybe that'll be one of them there easter eggs.

piscesboy, Wednesday, 26 January 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

That and 'Plug It In' live with JC on TOTP or T4 are glaringly omitted.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

i hate whoever decided to call hidden DVD features 'Easter eggs' - it makes no sense at all.

Difficult to clear bootlegs obv.

Stevem On X (blueski), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
I haven't found a thread mentioning this, so I'll put it here: Billboard.com is reporting that the Jaxx are without a U.S. label at the moment. Astralwerks decided not to pick up their option.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

WTF? Kish Kash just won a Grammy!

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

Yeah. I imagine they're probably getting some good offers this week.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

Is it possible that neither the singles comp or the DVD will be coming to the US? They're both on Amazon.co.uk, but not on Amazon.com.

TayBridgeDisasterr (TayBridge), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

The Billboard article only mentions a UK release.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Maybe once they get a new US distributor, I suppose. Hopefully.

TayBridgeDisasterr (TayBridge), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Jaxx are without a U.S. label at the moment

?!?!?!?

john'n'chcago, Wednesday, 16 February 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

"Sorry, we had to earmark all our Basement Jaxx budget to get Radio 4 new coke mirrors"

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

more than the jaxx being in trouble, this makes me think that astralwerks will probably be biting the dust soon.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

Terrific video!

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 27 February 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

"U Don't Know Me", the other new song on The Singles, is a rock track. I'm not too keen.

Well, they like the Quo

JoB (JoB), Monday, 14 March 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

"well it'll go some way towards me having missed out BOTH times due to an over fondness for legends-on-the-main-stage (bowie/macca) action."

Remedy this as soon as possible! Easily the best dance act, and one of the best live shows period, that I've ever seen.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

"Down Down"'s a great record.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

they picked quite a few numbers ones in that list for The Guide. i wonder if we could get them down to Poptimism next week for an impromptu DJ slot...

out today.

this may be the first music dvd i've bought on release day.

piscesboy, Monday, 21 March 2005 00:54 (twenty years ago)

The synthy ending to the club mix of "Oh My Gosh" is like a weird mixture of "All I Know" and "If I Ever Recover" - gorgeous tear-flecked melodrama but absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the song!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 21 March 2005 02:32 (twenty years ago)

Actually have people heard the other Jaxx auto-remixes on the Oh My Gosh single? It's like 99 all over again. The Old Skool Dub is a hard as fuck and crazy as anything soca-beat grinder like nothing they've done since their dub of Ronnie Richards' "Missin' You" (only more speedy and generally Bump & Flex-ish than that), and "Oh My Dub" is like "All You Crazies" or "Razocaine" but more traditional and Van Helden housey. Actually it's like Subliminal Records back when they were still really ace.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

Chartwise, "Oh My Gosh" is the Jaxx's biggest hit since "Romeo."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking a few hours ago that "Oh My Gosh" is basically the result of interbreeding the first singles from each of the three Jaxx albums (that "yaaaa yay! ya ya ya yay!" bit being the equiv of the psycho cats from "Red Alert").

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Where's 'Good Luck', besides more than one reviewer thinking Lisa K was singing?

BARMS, Monday, 21 March 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Er, Barms the first single from Kish Kash was "Lucky Star".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 21 March 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

Sooooo, where's...the...er, animal noises?

BARMS, Monday, 21 March 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

I still like the first 7 tracks on the Atlantic Jaxx comp more than anything else they've done (of course I love almost everything else they've done too).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 21 March 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)
