Love 'I Can't Wait' and - damn - Technotronic! Sheer class.

No Wire or Fall? Brian, it...it's like I hardly know you. *cries*

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 3 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago) link

But we do have the obligatory Severed Heads song, so things are still in fair alignment. (Personally, I'm puzzled at the lack of MBM.)

Brian, did you realize that you answered one of my first ever Usenet posts back in 1993? I think that you're the person I've known online the longest.

Great list, Brian, even without the Fall and Wire. Hooray for Fuzzbox. And Yazoo. I used to think Alf was singing "You know I just go ape for situation." And with regard to the whole "Don't Bring Me Down, Bruce" issue, Ned--Jeff Lynne says it's a nonsense word "groos" that he made up in the studio. His German producer said, "Great, it sounds just like an informal Bavarian goodbye (Tschus, I think)". Which does make perfect sense--"Don't bring me down! See ya!"

So I haven't listened to Fall, The Wire, or the Beat Meat Fisto in three days... they're not in my short term memory at the moment of my post. Deal.

Ok, fine. Babies.

  • The Fall "Middle Mass"
  • Wire "Too Late"
  • Meat Beat Manifesto "Reanimator Part 1"

And while I'm adding, like they always say, what's good for the giuss, is always good for the gandah. Oh shayla.

  • Ready For the World "Oh Sheila"

Unh.

Really? Well, in case my unemployment benefits run out mid year, would you do me the favor of being my partner in launching that porn site startup we've been talking about?

Dan and Brian bring -- The Adventures of Diznitz MacPervo!

Brian: re: RTFW: "Long Time Coming" is inestimably better and scarier than "Oh Sheila." "Digital Display," on the other hand: that was just wack.

John Darnielle, Friday, 4 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Just for my own edification - the "Oh Sheila" song in question goes, "Oh ... Oh, Sheila, let me love you till the morning comes ... oh, girl!" Am I right, or am I right?

David Raposa, Friday, 4 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

That's the song. Such heaven... and don't get me started on "Love You Down"!

Dan Perry, Friday, 4 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Never heard "Long Time Coming" I'm afraid, and I'm very curious. But wow, thanks for reminding me of "Digital Display". I'd have to listen to it again, but I remember really digging that song, too.. probably because it reminded of "Operator" or "Freak-a-zoid" by Midnight Star.

"Oh Sheila" is the winner, mainly because of the intro.
