I hear Daft Punk in the trees and rivers.

Is it me or are Daft Punk influences audible in a ridiculous percentage of pop songs recently. It's either that or me having to admit Hearsay, S Club, Pink and Kylies new singles are all "ok".

in this instance i would have to say that daft punk were not instigators of the post-disco, pre-house vibe but are simply part of a wider phenomenon at the moment. sophie ellis bextor covering take me home, kylie revisiting, aesthetically at least, a paradise garage feel. house has been overtly rechecking disco roots for a while, but it seems to be progressively less furtive or ironic, and this has filtered through recently

It's kind of the little things. Like I need to hear the singles again but they have alot of noises that to me are the sort of revived disco that Daft Punk like so much. Also the vocoders, was Around The World the start of that revival?

Also as a slightly irrelevent footnote, is there any truth to the rumour that Felix Da Housecat is suing 5ive for not bothering to clear the sample they lifted for "Let's Dance".

Daft Punk popularised the full-on phased house sound and one of them as Stardust took the disco flirtation to its logical conclusion, but otherwise I'd say they're (inspired) followers rather than leaders of this particular trend. I'd say the current pop sound is more of a distillation of "The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)" and French House generally.

Gareth's OTM about the decreasing furtiveness - something less perceptive types (ie. me) aren't likely to spot until it's actually pointed out, but so utterly true.

It's certainly pretty open in clubs. The night I go to was called nu:breaks but it's moved er, gradually then suddenly to sort of disco house of the agent sumo variety. And you can't go anywhere these days without hearing Billie Jean or other Jacko songs thrown into house sets.

right, so, "don't stop movin'", at the very end, that vocoder bit really does say "don't stop moving to the arse crack beat", right?

right?

Please clear up confusion: are the UK only just getting "Don't Stop Moving" *now*, or are we talking about some new Disco- Stomper released to redeem themselves after the monstrosity of "Have You Ever"?
