I love this album. It reminds me of the kind of thing New Order used to be capable of with their mid 80's lps. "How Long" is basically perfect.

Miles better than the last !!! release.

the title sounds like a hood song. that's all I have to say about it.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 27 January 2005 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i see !!!'s penchant for terrible song titles has seeped over into OH:

"Dear Mr. Bush, There are over 100 words for shit and only 1 for Music. Fuck You, Out Hud"

ugh

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm highly skeptical about the New Order claim above. That said, Out Hud can be good.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, some stupid song names but despite those, the disc is ace

i see !!!'s penchant for terrible song titles has seeped over into OH:

Yeah - it's too bad the New Order comparison can't extend to their sleeves too. The cover for this album is easily the worst that I've seen from this crew.

Scott Warner (thream), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anybody really give 2.4 shits about song titles????????

peepee (peepee), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

they're worth a thousand lyrics.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

...for an instrumental band.

That said, I can't wait to hear it!

peepee (peepee), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I dissed their song titles once in print and then interviewed OH's main dude; I introduced myself and he said, "Oh yeah . . . you're the one who made fun of our song titles in the Chicago Reader." weirdly enough, I actually like that "Fuck You, Out Hud" one (as a title).

the album is very good.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Nic = "main dude"

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Does Out Hud have singing like !!!?

I keep meaning to pick up STREETDAD then always forget.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

they now have singing, but not like !!!, where Nic is the vocalist; this time OH have Molly and Phyllis (one's the cellist, the other's the drummer, I'm forgetting which does which at the mo') singing. they're not great at it but it doesn't get in the way, grounds it a bit more. and the music's more expansive than on Street Dad.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

they now have singing, but not like !!!, where Nic is the vocalis

That's cool...I kinda like !!! but the singing limits them to a "small doses" type band for me.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

peepee: if this is any indicator as to how much i dig this Out Hud record, I'm not selling it to you! ;)

and to answer another question, yes, there are plenty of vocals here.. great vocals, at that.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

there was lots of singing when i saw them live about 8 months ago.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Out Hud is fantastic live. Highly recommended.

cdwill, Friday, 28 January 2005 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

saw !!! years ago but didn't like the last album enough to check the show out last summer; I like the OH album plenty and will definitely try to see them, should be fun

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

So I take it this is the new album? They left me quite perplexed, I must say, because I thought their singles were ace attempts at resurrecting the best things about post-punk, but the album almost sounded like a different band, more like say, Broken Social Scene or something. The contrast between the singles and the album drove me crazy. Is this new one like the former or the latter?

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

more like the prior album, but I think better--a bit tougher and chewier both at once, if that makes sense. I'm guessing you won't like it if you didn't like Street Dad

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I've always noticed a strong Pell Mell inspiration in Out Hud.. could this be the New Order influence being talked about? (Because I can see comparisons between Pell Mell and New Order.)

donut christ (donut), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

the 11-minute song that ends "Fuck You, Out Hud" is pretty New Order-y (or maybe Pell Mell-ish), by way of the Chemical Brothers a little.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Friday, 28 January 2005 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't expecting all these vocals in my Out Hud. But that's not a complaint at all!

I might actually like this better than S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D. in time.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 28 January 2005 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i see !!!'s penchant for terrible song titles has seeped over into OH

Outhud started it, if anything. This sounds like it's gonna be great

DJ Mencap0))), Friday, 28 January 2005 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the singing on this record, but I still miss the dubby guitar goodnes of the early singles.

Magic City (ano ano), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Well any hope I had for the record based on the previews were mercilessly crushed. See other thread.

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

eleven months pass...
i just discovered this, a bit too late - but i like it very much and it's really not the kind of thing i go for either so it must be good.

Louis Giomblechett and his kerayzy friends (dog latin), Saturday, 21 January 2006 04:24 (twenty years ago)

this was in my top ten!

stockholm cindy (winter version) (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 21 January 2006 05:05 (twenty years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 21 January 2006 07:39 (twenty years ago)

i totally forgot about this album.
