Now that I've seen her picture, am I the only one who has a crush on Amy Phillips?

I just found her blog (http://moreinthemonitor.com) and saw this entry:

"Monday, January 10, 2005
Amy's reading/Astor Place B&N/Monday, Jan 10 2005"

Check out the pics.

God Amy is cute!

Yr strange.

Amy's a pleasant person.

Thank you for participating.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

I don't mind saying that Amy is cute, but I feel weird about this thread.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Rather.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

This is what I meant on that "typical ilm poster" thread.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Maybe nobody should have responded.

I retract my earlier statement.

As far as critics go I am even cuter than that French chick who writes for Pitchfork.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

What makes this thread funny is that posting to it sends a notification email off to the Advocate.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

My God!

You are the ones who are strange.

What's the big freaking deal?

I just said Amy is cute and I have a crush on her.

Steven Ward, Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Nabisco,

It's not *that* Advocate.

It's the daily newspaper in Baton Rouge.

Steven Ward, Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

does the idea of a female [music] writer make you horny? like a girl who knows and loves music AND writes about it. but she's a girl. and maybe she's pretty. and female. and maybe she knows more than you do. and she's got boobies.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Steven,

Thanks for clarifying.

How's Baton Rouge?

Is anyone there cute?

ns

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Nabisco is PURE PRON!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

No one in Baton Rouge is cute.

adam (adam), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

Sure Nabisco. Plenty of people.

Hey. If you put your picture up at your blog, you obviously want people to see what you look like.

I have read and enjoyed Amy's stuff (writing) for the last few years.

It was a suprise to see what she looked like (not that it actually matters)

And I repsonded to her pic.

What can I say?

I take it back.

She's not cute. She's just a really good music writer.

Steven,

Don't worry.

We're just messing with you.

For fun, I guess.

Cause what else would we do?

Have a thread to discuss whether or not Amy's cute?

That would be weird, don't you think?

Kinda creepy?

I guess people could email you privately.

And you could discuss your shared crush.

But that'd be a little strange too, right?

Hence the kidding around.

Hope you're having a good time in Baton Rouge!

It's a little cold in NYC.

But sunny today, so not too horrible.

You know who else is cute?

Is Heather Graham.

Gotta run!

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

LiveJournal poetry always makes me so sad.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Yes.

Heather Graham is cute.

But Amy P is cuter.

And HG can't write good record reviews (I bet)

Steven Ward, Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

Steven Ward, you aren't from Lexington, KY and have three sisters do you?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

No Nickalicious. That's not me.

But I may decide to write a song about how cute Amy Phillips is and try to get Dave Queen to write about it.

sw

Steven Ward, Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

One thing you should keep in mind for your song -- and something those pictures don't reflect -- is that Amy is actually part robot! She has cybernetic legs and a big control panel on her back. Also she can only exist in two dimensions at a time, so sometimes you might be talking about her and only later realize that she was right there next to you -- only standing sideways! Also she has extensive ties with various NASA lunar exploration programs and smells curiously of butterscotch.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

strange

i always heard

that she smelled

spuriously of butterscotch.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

This has the distinction of only being the third or fourth creepiest thread about Amy Phillips. So really all you haterz need to work harder, kay.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

yeah!

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

Blount's thread still takes the cake.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

Caryn's cute too (see her self-portrait there if you don't believe me). They look like two of my best friends from high school. "Baton Rouge means Red Stick in French, but to me it means a broken heart." For 10 points, who did that song and what's its title?

don, Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

"My Brown Haired NASA Girl"

Amy, Amy, two dimensions are better than one
Amy, Amy, you got me daydreaming instead of having real fun
Amy, Amy, Please do a reading at my B&N
Amy, Amy, you're an alterna-boy's 10

Amy Phillips is too cute for words
Amy Phillips is not too cute to write about The Byrds

Or something like that.......

sw

Steven Ward, Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

You know who else is cute? Is me. I think I might start writing under the name "Buffy Leone" and then convincing college kids to send me presents.

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

What sort of "presents"?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

steve spurrier?

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

Any relation to Sierra Leone? My fave rave Hong Kong Boaty Beat artist, so far.

don, Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

Amy and I have the same favorite Mountain Goats, Clash, and Sleater-Kinney songs, and this is how I know she's the best music critic alive.

What's with all the Red Stick kids here? I grew up right off Highland Rd. You guys grow up there too or are you LSU students (or did you recently find work in the chemical refining industry...?) I can't vouche for cute people being there or not, haven't spent much time there lately, but in my experience, Louisiana has the friendliest people in the country. Also Louisiana's scientists long ago perfected the intricate technology of the porch, thus assuring its dominance over all other states.

Carter, Saturday, 29 January 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

this thread is bananas

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 29 January 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to start writing as "Jayne Dork"!!! Or maybe "Mr. Brightside"!!! ALL MY SENTENCES WILL END WITH TRIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS OR THEY WILL BE WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS. It will be fun!!! IT IS LIKE POPCORN IN YOUR BRAIN.

Blount's thread was the first ILX thread I ever saw! Carey showed it to me.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 29 January 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

oh btw I wasn't mocking Amy or anything with my above post. I was just inspired by the concept for "Buffy Leone."

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

hung out with her last night suckers!

Nick Sylvester, Saturday, 29 January 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)
