and thank god for that.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 27 January 2005 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked The Killers better when they had that short chick on vocals and did "Nancy Boy".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Music before The Libertines and The Killers and all that good stuff was doomed. 1998 to 2002, mebbe even 2003, = Coldplay/ Travis/ Stereophonics dominance.

Indie Innes, Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

lame fagtastic

An apt pairing of words, Roger. But not for the reasons you'd think.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

elwisty (elwisty), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

How long before "tripping the lame fagtastic" becomes slang for going to dancerock shows?

x-post

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

They don't sound anything like the Smiths.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

"dancerock" is the EMF revival upon us?

elwisty (elwisty), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It's unbelievable.

Jeff Reguilon (Talent Explosion), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

TS; The Killer vs EMF vs Duran Duran

elwisty (elwisty), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

this song hurts my head.

I like that song. I don't own the album or anything, but I sing along with it when it comes on the radio and haven't gotten sick of hearing it every day for the last six months, which is something.

Isn't it that she has a boyfriend who looks like a girlfriend?

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

(But, yes, it is indeed classik.)

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"i like how he sounds so insistent that it was in FEBruary!! of last year........"

Also grebt is the bizarre "IN THE BACK OF THE RESTAURANT" line in "Smile Like You Mean It."

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i love that line

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 28 January 2005 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

"IN THE BACK OF THE RESTAURANT"

hahahhahahahah

"It's like a cigarette in the mouth - a handshake in the doorway!"

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 28 January 2005 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

CUTTY OMG YOU LIKE TEH KILLERS!

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 28 January 2005 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw the video where the old guy he plays checkers with makes kissy faces at him and he gets all mad and stomps off flinging the board into the air.
WTF

bprofane (AaronHz), Friday, 28 January 2005 05:04 (twenty-one years ago)

True, but every now and again, I do notice a certain Morrissey-ness in what they do that's hard to put a finger on. Perhaps it's the singer's vocal style or lyrics. I do know Moz likes them so it could be the power of association, but my impression remains. Of course, I have no problem with it, it's very subtle and doesn't come across as an outright attempt to copy, but I did notice that most of the people that listed the Killers as one of the top 5 bands they hated that other ILXors liked ALSO listed Moz/Smiths. So go figure. I also hear a little Duran in them and a little early U2 (particularly the beginning of "Believe Me Natalie" - delicious, that one!). But to expect NOT to see shades of other bands in new ones, particularly in this day and age, is ridiculously unrealistic. The question should be 'does the sum of the parts overwhelm any obvious influences'? And I do believe this is the case for the Killers. They've got TUNES. Tunes that by rights should have been penned by a British band, but they're from Las Vegas and truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.

But go ahead haterz, by all means, don't let me interrupt.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 28 January 2005 05:04 (twenty-one years ago)

CLASSIC OR DUD: THE LYRICS TO "BELIEVE ME, NATALIE" BY TEH KILLERS!

WTF

Near sure-shot for #1 video of 2005.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Friday, 28 January 2005 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

He sings kind of like Morrissey sometimes.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Friday, 28 January 2005 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

the old guy = ERIC ROBERTS. RESPECT.

miccio (miccio), Friday, 28 January 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i own the album and had the chance to see the killers in concert last year and i must say that I LOVE THESE GUYS. the lyrics are fucking awesome and they just have a really good energy to them. im a college student and 'somebody told me' has become a staple at all the frat parties. on a side note, i find itinteresting that bimble compares the song 'believe me natalie' to early U2 because i am not a fan of both the song or the group.

muse (muse), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I like this song because it's a big fake plastic Las Vegas valentine version of the whole NYC Strokes/Interpol/YYY/Rapture thing, and it's catchier than any of them. More disco, too. I don't want or need to hear anything else by the Killers, but that hook is a monster.
