The Stones/Who sussed/berserker question again, except instead of Acton/Dartford, the more exotic Ferriday LA/Lubbock TX polarity.

BTW this is most emphatically NOT just DQ's usual "They're American so they're better" insinuation! In fact, my 2002 resolution is to stop constantly crapping on perfidious Albion - for the sake of my mental health if nothing else, seeing as I have to live here and all.

Killer's cooler. Killer married his 14-year old cousin (not Jerry Falwell!) and did "High School Confidential" and "Ubangi Stomp." But Buddy wrote pop songs. I like pop songs. Killer rocked, but Buddy's timeless. Isn't this just the first instance of rock v. pop anyhow? And pop *always* wins.

Thank you, Mark: far more succinct and spot-on than I ever could have put it myself.

My Dad's Buddy Holly album was the first music I ever fell in love with. Jerry Lee's piano stomping and white-gospel hollering has its charms but not as much as Buddy's hicupping vocals, sweet sweet melodies, and guitar licks. The Beatles and the Stones would have happened without Lewis, but not Holly. Quite a legacy for someone killed at 21. 'Timeless' indeed, but then here I find it hard to be objective. Elvis never meant jack-shit to me, Buddy I adore.

not to mention the Hollies! nyuk nyuk.

This one's too close to call for me. Too different in their strengths.

If I didn't know anything about Jerry Lee Lewis' life, I don't think I'd get anything out of the records at all. I basically don't anyway. At least Buddy Holly looks cool.
