'Cause after listening to "Running" for the first time in a while and realizing it has the Best House Bassline Ever*, I wanna know. Anything since "Rubicon"?

*Your mileage may vary.

four months pass...
Out on monday.... tracklisting here http://www.alanbraxeandfriends.com/

soc, Friday, 3 June 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

I like the way they've adopted the 'you know more crowded house songs that you think!' tag line in order to sell it

soc, Friday, 3 June 2005 11:13 (twenty years ago)

yay

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

great sleeve:)

Alan Braxe Presents His Braxe Factor...Volume 1.

BARMS, Friday, 3 June 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Wow, I am so excited to blast The Paradise in full CD quality!!! I have listened to that song about 1000 times.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

ooooh, and "Penthouse Serenade"....

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 3 June 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

would be nice if they had included 'Time Out'.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 3 June 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

A++++++++++

vahid (vahid), Friday, 3 June 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
vahid otm! it is so awesome to have all of these tracks compiled onto one cd. it's weird that the stardust track on here is the weakest thing (to my ears anyway), but it's a truly solid/sweaty/sexy/amazingly produced effort. it makes a great case for a line of thought that might decree that albums by dance artists should only be singles compilations.

tricky (disco stu), Friday, 15 July 2005 22:24 (nineteen years ago)

This really is awesome, and I agree about "Music Sounds Better With You" - it sounds worse compared to the rest of this.

Dominique (dleone), Friday, 15 July 2005 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

This is called REVISIONIST HISTORY!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 15 July 2005 23:13 (nineteen years ago)

I think it may not fit as well with the rest of the tracks, but "Music Sounds Better With You" is sort of a track beyond judgement at this point. It's easily one of the biggest international house anthems of all time.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 15 July 2005 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

I'm in Toronto and I still can't find this comp. anywhere. I'm also met with blank stares at 3 of the indy shops I checked. Grrr.

The New Ice Age, Friday, 15 July 2005 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

Amoeba Hollywood had a vinyl copy a couple weeks ago. I'm going to check this weekend for the CD.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 15 July 2005 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

i want this

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 15 July 2005 23:40 (nineteen years ago)

there will be no more criticism of "music sounds better with you"

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 16 July 2005 09:09 (nineteen years ago)

It's Europe-only at the moment, I think...it's on PIAS, isn't it? They'd better get this and the Vitalic album out in NA soon.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 16 July 2005 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

God, I love how the vocal sort of "sticks" to the track on "Music Sounds Better With You" (wish I could describe that better).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 16 July 2005 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

oh i love "music sounds better with you", don't get me wrong. i still stand by my comment that it's the weakest track on this comp (which is saying something!!) (spencer is correct, it pretty much is beyond judgement.) it really stands out as the only track with bangalter's input. where most artists loop for 16 bars, he extends it to 64. it also feels much more linear than everything else. i'm still sitting here chair dancing to it though!

tricky (disco stu), Saturday, 16 July 2005 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

SEVEN YEARS OLD

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 16 July 2005 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

Man, the song's been around practically one-third of my entire life! Well, closer to one-quarter.

Eric H. (Eric H.), Saturday, 16 July 2005 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure there is any record which tops it in the "songs which come on crappy radio on a hot day and make you feel amazing" chart.

maybe "No Diggity" or "California" or a few Stardust clones like Modjo are in that chart too.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 16 July 2005 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

"Groovejet" goes in that category too.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 16 July 2005 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

i was dissappointed the San Fran Amoeba wasn't carrying this last week - i wanted it for my roadtrip and had made a special trip, g-damnit! they actually didn't weren't carrying *any*thing by these guys at the time. man!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Saturday, 30 July 2005 03:12 (nineteen years ago)

but now there are 3 braxe/falke threads in close succession on ilm!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Saturday, 30 July 2005 03:13 (nineteen years ago)

I ordered mine from amazon.co.uk. Price is actually pretty good with exchange rate and no VAT.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 July 2005 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

You can get it just as cheap at Amazon in the US, though- $20 as opposed to about $19 after the exchange (unless I'm doing my calculations wrong) and if you throw a single or something in your order you get free shipping, all for about the same price as an overseas order.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Saturday, 30 July 2005 03:24 (nineteen years ago)

oh i hadn't bothered checking A. god, i can't believe how they really do have everything! its wonderful and it sucks. thx! i'm really excited about how great this is gonna be!! and the unknown factor too, since i've only heard Rubicon and a few other tracks of his.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Saturday, 30 July 2005 03:31 (nineteen years ago)

xpost: Yes, total $USD from amazon.co.uk would be $21.85 all in... and the delivery time would be several days (like 5) longer.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 July 2005 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

but... US Amazon says availability 1-2 weeks...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 30 July 2005 08:07 (nineteen years ago)

"Music Sounds Better With You" has always been kinda shitty.

heretic, Saturday, 30 July 2005 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

No it's great.

inquisition, Saturday, 30 July 2005 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

the new 12 on Vulture, "Discopolis" by Lifelike and Kris Menace, is pretty cool. Samples "Another Life" by Kano, and is very Braxe also. I'll ysi here in a few mins.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 30 July 2005 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

they've remixed some DFA 1979 track, but it's nothing great imho.

jermaine (jnoble), Saturday, 30 July 2005 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

so i just got this yesterday. i'm happy with it - though like lots of other people on this thread my excitement is dulled a little bit by the fact that i already own a CDr called "alan braxe's greatest hits" with like 3/4 of this stuff on it.

i wonder: if this album ("the upper cuts") were the new daft punk album (and not "human after all") what would the reaction have been like??

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 30 July 2005 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

vahid: ecstatic?

jermaine: that dfa remix is rad!

I'll ysi here in a few mins.

:(

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 30 July 2005 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

could ronan have been KILLED by alan braxe to stop the leaking of this track??

haitch (haitch), Saturday, 30 July 2005 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

it's uploading now!

wow, that was epic. thank you ronan.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 30 July 2005 20:12 (nineteen years ago)

yeah it rocks!

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 30 July 2005 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

Word is that this will be getting U.S. distribution from Forced Exposure soon.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 1 August 2005 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

oooo i'm very excited-will listen tonite!! thx

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 1 August 2005 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

Discopolis is good

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 4 August 2005 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

His remix of Annie's Heartbeat was the gear :)

pistola, Friday, 5 August 2005 05:49 (nineteen years ago)

'Upper Cuts' is an amazing set of tracks - particularly 'Rubicon' which is a perfect 80s air-puncher. I have all the 12" and made a compilation of my own just like this one months back and called it 'Braxe Classix' so I wont bother buying it!

And come on, Alan & friends, you should be churning these tunes out! We love 'em! (the latest one, 'Discopolis' on Vulture, is another gem).

Tom Oke, Friday, 12 August 2005 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

yeah ronan i'm getting lotsa mileage outta "discopolis" over here too..

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 August 2005 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

oo i can't wait for Upper Cuts to come! i think its being held up by my pre-order of new Rolling Stones album --- Amazon's horrible free shipping...which is apparently also a rockist's plot to not give me my disco

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 12 August 2005 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

god i wish i wasn't broke. my wishlist is expanding and looming before me.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Friday, 12 August 2005 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

i love the girl's name penned in on the cover

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 12 August 2005 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

Wait..."Discopolis"? Is this a new Alan Braxe tune? And if it is (or even if it isn't), can someone YSI, or preferably Gmail? I will give you my firstborn child and also delicious cookies.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Friday, 12 August 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

It's actually being billed as "Alex Braxe presents Likelike & Chris Menace," so I don't think he really had anything to do with it production wise (if we learned anything from Chicago House.)

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 12 August 2005 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

I love how they just keep making this stuff regardless of anything else, "Discopolis" could have been huge in 2002, or possibly 1999 but the sound just seems to kind of linger on as a real pop meme. And yeah it's totally epic.

Check out the "Lifelike Return To Disco" remix of Vicarious Bliss-Theme From Vicarious Bliss, on Skint, for slightly more crazy bass drum/doorbell retro French House.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 August 2005 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

agree there. i love the way its awkwardly too close to not in the timeframe of the resurfacing of those trends. well...what you said etc.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 12 August 2005 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

meant "too close BUT not in"

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Friday, 12 August 2005 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

anyway, i gotta say i'm so happy to own this on vinyl, it is truly delicious.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 12 August 2005 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

Hello from Amazon.com.

We are sorry to report that we will not be able to obtain the following item from your order:

Alan Braxe "Upper Cuts"

MWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

I ordered mine from Amazon.co.uk and it came within a week.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

must've cost you more money?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

Is there any truth to the Denny Lethargy remix rumours?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

Not really. VAT subtracted when delivered outside of the UK and the exchange rate has been a little better lately.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

that's xpost obv.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

i've never ordered anything from amazon.uk. but i guess that is the next step. it fucking annoys me that they say they have shit, and then don't. this is the only thing i've had to look forward to for weeks!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

Ordering from Amazon.co.uk couldn't be easier. The only thing is you won't get a tracking number (but they will let you know when it ships).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

Adam, no, sadly Braxe/Falke won't be appearing on the Denny Lethargy Speicher.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

Now would be an excellent time to discuss micro/french crossover tracks!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 25 August 2005 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

plus, American sellers still use the amazon.co.uk marketplace site, and will charge American prices for CDs (I got this CD from amazon.co.uk for about $12)

Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

and have to say a tad underwhelmed by "Discopolis". I want to like it, but it doesn't really have the fab-romantic bits

Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

"it doesn't really have the fab-romantic bits" - thats totally true.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 25 August 2005 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

Ugh "Lumberjack"!!

Jeb, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

was amused to find out recently that kris menace isn't even french.

haitch, Thursday, 31 May 2007 05:14 (eighteen years ago)

A little underwhelmed, but only because Braxe usually overwhelms. It's serviceable, but while the sound is lush, the melody is not.

jergïns, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 06:08 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i was always disappointed that there werent more remixes done from that album but i guess now that the modular machine's behind them that it'll happen

t_g, Thursday, 24 April 2008 07:51 (seventeen years ago)

eight months pass...

falke still seems busy but alan braxe has been quieter in the past six months or so? huh.

+++ (jergins), Friday, 9 January 2009 00:37 (sixteen years ago)

he's still recuperating from the DJ Assault brouhaha

jamescobo, Friday, 9 January 2009 00:49 (sixteen years ago)

i missed that story somehow. i saw the Braxe set but walked away at the end while a variant of the 'Intro'/Jets vocal hook was just looping for about 5 minutes or more. it sounded awesome tho.
