Thunderbirds: Classic or Dud?

I recently obtained a couple DVD packs of Thunderbirds episodes, which has struck an unexplainable nerve that I haven't felt in ages. Do you remember the show, the '60s sci-fi extravaganza in Supermarionation? The Tracy family, Thunderbird crafts 1 through 5, the Mole, Lady Penelope's posh FAB 1 (replete with smoke bombs and hydrofoil capabilities)? Do you have any clue what I'm talking about? Well, maybe not. Just don't get it confused what that dumb Thundercats cartoon -- most people say "Thunderbirds HO!!!" when I bring up the subject, which is returned with a sound thumping.

They used to play that on the cartoon network (though it's not a cartoon). It's a good show, Rezillos do a nice theme song called "Thunderbirds Are Go!" if you haven't heard it. I loved that show. It was weird and cool. Cooler than G-Force, maybe. Marionettes bobbing their heads as they talk like real adults (when they look like midgets or something) is real fun to watch on Sunday mornings.

See posts under "Kitsch Nostalgia TV Show..." for some thoughts on those freaky Thunderbirds.

when I was *really* small I loved Thunderbirds, but when I was not much older I found it very dull. I've stuck with my ten year old self's opinion, although the Grablogger is still pretty cool.

Never understood the appeal. Crap puppets in shite adventures. So one of the Duds of the Century. But hey, if these are happy childhood memories than by all means enjoy. Or is this some "it's so bad it's good" kinda deals?
