"female friendly"

eman (eman), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

No segway sales.

"Hard working and committed"
"Must play well with others"

You make being in a band sound like working in a call centre.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

why do some bands even bother.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

That's an urgent and key question.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

and here i came looking for tmbg fans to mock

rentboy (rentboy), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

This isn't that different from every musician want ad I've ever seen.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

But that by no means makes it less funny.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

* must play well with others assholes

...would be more likely. Wait, no, sorry, that's unfair. There's only one asshole in your band. ;-)

it's a bit much to ask the drummer to 'play with others'. surely it's the others who have to play to the beat?

Miles Finch, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

that's a good TMBG song. I've often been tempted to pull out Lincoln, Flood or the s/t one lately, but always chicken out. It'd be hell finding it amongst the ruins, anyway....

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

haters!!!

Catty (Catty), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Usually people post other people's want ads here to mock, it took me a second to realize that this is an earnest one.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

Own kit NOT required
this is just asking for trouble.

m0stly clean (m0stly clean), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

Surely liking the Clash but knowing any of their names is punker than punk?

noodle vague (noodle vague), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

so where do the earnest ads get posted then?
i did look for a classifieds sort of board but didn't see one. but i admit I didn't look that hard. it was 4am when I posted that.

The Clash story goes like this:
I'm talking to my little punque roque friend, who at the time was 20. I say to her, "hey, Joe Strummer is doing an instore at Tower."
My friend says, "Who's Joe Strummer?"
I say, "He's on your shirt."

My husband was management at this Tower location so we met Joe Strummer and he gave us a Canadian flag towel. Not that that has anything to do with anything. But it's a pretty cool towel.

Catty (Catty), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

x post

"but not knowing any of their names"

noodle vague (noodle vague), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

(headsmack!) Catty, sorry, I thought you were posting this for humor value. I honestly didn't ACTUALLY think it was funny -- I was sort of confused.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 01:34 (twenty years ago)

well, you can imagine the level of desperation we're in if we're posting want ads here. ;)

Catty (Catty), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

Do you not have some sort of Craigslist option? Or even a local wanky musical instrument shop with a bulletin board?

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:21 (twenty years ago)

Haven't done Craiglist yet... we've posted on a couple other message boards and SUPPOSEDLY one of the assholes was going to hang up fliers on local campus (campii?) but she hasn't yet and probably won't.

Catty (Catty), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

SUPPOSEDLY one of the assholes was going to hang up fliers on local campus (campii?) but she hasn't yet and probably won't.

This statement is the single, universal truth of bands.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

this is the hardest lesson i have learned about being in a band with other "adults."

Catty (Catty), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

Ok, how about this. For three years, our bass player has used our guitarist's bass amp and hasn't bought his own, in spite of our pleadings. No actually, at first he used what he claimed was a bass amp but was actually a guitar amp and sounded like crap.

About a month ago, our guitar player (who plays bass in another band) decided to finally get rid of his amp and plans to buy a new, nicer one, which he does not want to be our band's bass amp. Not only is our bass player insisting that he is not going to buy one (we are going on tour in less than a MONTH), but he is upset that our guitar player didn't consider the band situtation in getting rid of the amp.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

I don't actually own a bass amp myself. I just hire one at the practice space and use a direct entry into the soundboard at gigs. it's quite nice, actually.

I'd say you should Pete Best him but judging from the NME and DiS boards, bassists are In Demand.
