ILX Search is your friend!

donut christ (donut), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

These clips are very promising.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

mmm, tasty. it sounds kinda scattershot after the first couple listens, but that's not always a hinderance.

deyoung (ndeyoung), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

no need to search when you're spammin'.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Still, pretty informative/relevant for a spam, no?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

Spammers are counting on the fact people have already downloaded the album illegally? That's progressive, I guess.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

how the hell is this spam? is enthusiasm considered the same?

Rizz (Rizz), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

regardless this album is exactly what i wanted it to be.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

thats what i was trying to say :)

Rizz (Rizz), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

DEAR FUCKING GOD!

These sound like bad demos for some shitty freeware music construction program!

Why bother with CDs when they can sell cheap jump drives or 3 1/2" floppy discs with the MIDI files on them instead?

*PUKE*

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

lol...u puked on yr shoes ;)

Rizz (Rizz), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

No no, *PUKE* is the sound effect I'm using the emulate the bass notes on my Ensoniq when the Out Hud MIDI album comes out.

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

I really hoped Donut would be wrong, but wow, what a letdown! They stopped doing brilliant post-punk style stuff for THIS plastic artificial sounding crap? Please no more mentions of this alongside the new LCD Soundsystem or New Order, please.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Thursday, 3 February 2005 07:53 (twenty years ago)

The sleeve is bloody awful. I'm digging this at the moment tho, much more so than the LCD Soundsystem album.

http://www.geocities.com/simpsonneil/krank082.jpg

I still can't quite get my head around the fact that this is coming out on Kranky.

hmmm (hmmm), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

that's a very frightening sleeve

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

that's the ugliest sleeve for a good album i have ever, ever seen.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

seriously.
!!! have ugly covers too. what the fuck is wrong with these people? for some reason it actually kind of pisses me off that someone would have the nerve to release something with this cover.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

that cover is hurting me. worst i've ever seen i think.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Is it uglier than the new Mercury Rev album? I would have thought for that not to be possible.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

I've seen worse covers, and the art is way better than the music itself, inducing from the samples.

But yeah, it looks like a fourth rate Pop Will Eat Itself album cover, done in 15 minutes after the Designers Republic cancelled on them.

donut christ (donut), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

Let Us Never Speak Of It Again takes the early lead for most disappointing album of 2005.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Thursday, 10 February 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

"How Long" is good but the album is dull at times.

Logan (the_three_G_s), Thursday, 10 February 2005 05:52 (twenty years ago)

let us never speak of it again.

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 10 February 2005 06:12 (twenty years ago)

I listened through to the whole thing last night and discovered that track 3, 'one life to leave' is good ans is almost up there with Me & Giuliaini & 'L train' from s.t.r.e.e.t.d.a.d. The rest I need never listen to again.

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 10 February 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

Donut, I don't get your criticism at all. This record is actually very good. Bright, fun textures and certainly much more danceable (and closer to "house") than any other 'disco-punk'.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 18 February 2005 07:28 (twenty years ago)

Although re-reading I'm wondering if you only heard those little snippets (which I liked too).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 18 February 2005 07:32 (twenty years ago)

Some of the tracks are quite pretty too - the best ones sound like a house-ified Tom Tom Club.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 18 February 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

I wonder what they might have meant by "Let Us Never Speak Of It Again"?

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 18 February 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

The sleeve, surely.

I don't like the housey-ness of this record. There's beats but no groove. Some of the lyrics are pretty terrible too.

hmmm (hmmm), Friday, 18 February 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

i love this, screw the haters.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 18 February 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
what spencer says, really (and he's especially otm re: the tom tom club reference point). they really have a way with hook deployment - they intially seem to come in at odd times, then squirm their way into yr brain. search: "it's for you", "old nude", "how long".

jermaine (jnoble), Saturday, 12 March 2005 00:04 (twenty years ago)

this album gets better every time i listen to it.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 12 March 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

It's like !!! on E. I love bopping around to the first track.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 12 March 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it's terrif.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Saturday, 12 March 2005 00:26 (twenty years ago)

I like it all right. The thing that struck me the most is how subdued a lot of it is -- not rhythmically (it thumps like mad) but sonically; some of the beats and the bass and the stuff you usually want to have mega-massive-huge coming out of big monster-booty speakers seems a little clipped and sheared and seems to have a radius of about two feet from point of origin. That, and the barely-there singers.

Anyone else notice the funny correlation between song length and title absurdity?

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Saturday, 12 March 2005 00:33 (twenty years ago)

The haters OTM. Really, !!! have made Out Hud redundant--finally.

Blightersrock (Da ve Segal), Saturday, 12 March 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

I like "It's For You." That's all I've heard.. is this out yet?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Saturday, 12 March 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

I think "One Life to Leave" is my favorite.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 12 March 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

Really, !!! have made Out Hud redundant

Yeah, if it ain't got choruses about doo-doo and super-self-absorbed smug-motherfucker vox then fuck it, mang

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Saturday, 12 March 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

There's a lot of New Order influence on this as well - especially the slower tracks.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 12 March 2005 07:26 (twenty years ago)

http://www.explodingplastic.com/reviews/outhudneverletusspeak.html

i hate to pimp a review on my site, but i actually agree this time with the reviewer.

twelve, Saturday, 12 March 2005 08:19 (twenty years ago)

I thought the last !!! was pretty weak. It'd be a bit better if they'd muzzle the singer.

Scott Warner (thream), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

It'd be a bit better if they'd muzzle the singer

That what I think on most albums with vocalists!

peepee (peepee), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Spencer OTM re: Tom Tom Club. With this and "Chewing Gum", we're in the midst of a TTC revival.
