All in the thread title...who are good for hosting mp3, all cheap like?

Barbarity Itself, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

it's not cheap, but .mac accounts seem to be the preferred solution for most high-traffic mp3 blogs.

What's "high-traffic" in the mp3 blog world?

shieldforyoureyes, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

If it's for your own stuff, check out archive.org - it's free.

todd (todd), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

whose Mp3s are they?
are you disseminating your own material?

strangely all those mp3 bloggers seem to get away with flaunting anti-piracy laws and hosting at apple. .mac

otherwise:
you can buy server space on any number of hosts for

Another great source (if it's your own material) is CDBaby. My band has sold around 30 or 40 cds on that site, they promoted us in a Tower Records mailer, we did jack shit, and it is totally FREE (or at least was at one point). You may want to try Itunes, as well. 30 or 40 cds may not sound like much, but hey it'll buy you a new PA head or whatever.

It's a little more legwork and coding, but yousendit.com has been awesome for me. And of course it's free. Just send the link to yourself, and then post it on your site. It will work for 7 days.

I use Racknine and they've been very kind.
As for what's high traffic: I've been averaging over 100 gigs of dl bandwidth per month; how's that?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 01:10 (twenty years ago)

3 gig/day is expensive with the web hosting company I use.

shieldforyoureyes, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure if it's what you have in mind, but I recommend a band page at myspace.com -- it's free and you can post 4 mp3s.

You'd have to be pretty fucking retarded to think that hosting RIAA Copyrighted MP3's on Apple's web servers isn't going to come back to bite you.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:58 (twenty years ago)

bite me

ikaru, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

.mac/iDisk is the best deal in town. $100 a year for a crazy amount of space with seemingly unlimited bandwidth. I've used it since 2002 and have never had a single problem.

Fluxblog comes to mind?

oh thats you in the post above then?

Savin All My Love 4 u (Savin 4ll my (heart) 4u), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

I don't have any experience with this, but wherever you do sign up, I'd read over the agreement pretty carefully. What happens if they find out you're uploading copyright infringing material? Is it possible for a .Mac account to cancel your service and keep the $100? Sure, it hasn't happened to Matthew yet, but if it is possible, I'd imagine it'd be smarter to try some place else.

Mickey (modestmickey), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

It's all a crap shoot. I refuse to believe that any of these hosting companies are naive - a huge portion of what people are likely to post is going to be copyrighted material. I imagine that most of these companies look the other way to keep the subscription money rolling in so long as there are no complaints or egregious misuses of the space. Mac is either looking the other way, or they are totally clueless.
