I Think "Since U Been Gone" Is Great And I Think She Could Probably Do A Great Version Of Russ Ballard's "Since You've Been Gone" In A Rainbow OR A Cherie & Marie Currie Vein As Well

But I'd settle for a medley of man on the silver mountain/messin'with the boys/smoke on the water/cherry bomb in a eurodisco style. i dig her voice. at least on this song.

I love it. It's like Interpol led by Irene Cara.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

It's pretty Laura Branigany too! People don't sing like this any more. Not even Kelly most of the time.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

I just found out recently that Max Martin wrote this! OMGWTFLOL! Maybe he did write all those Hives tracks!

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

It sounds more Patti Smythe than Laura Branigan to my ears.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

What about Weird Al's "Since You've Been Gone" or does that not count as real music?

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

No wonder I love this! My favorite single of year by some distance, and I normally hate Kelly Clarkson.

It reminds me a bit of "Stroke of Genius", but the melancholy of that song is replaced by this triumphant, undeniable abba-esque chorus.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

Mmm... "abba-esque." Everytime someone re-evalutes this song, I have to go back and give it a fresh listen. So please, people. Keep going. Otherwise I'll just be listening to it on repeat for no reason.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

It's a great, great song. I've only heard it a handful of times but it gets stuck in my head a lot.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

can somebody email me this? please.

reo, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

miccio OTM.

PeopleFunnyBoy (PeopleFunnyBoy), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

"and I normally hate Kelly Clarkson"
"Not even Kelly most of the time"

EXACTLY. to the both of you. which is why this one is such a welcome surprise.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

reo: yeah, I can send it -- to the Hotmail address?

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

I love this song, and I hate indie rock kids who won't accept it because it's pop

i am nervous (cochere), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

i actually want to hear a kelly clarkson song??????????

yes, it's hotmail alright.

i'm sorta afraid to hear this.

the descriptions i've read lately are just reaching out to me though..

reo, Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

I actually revisited her whole videography after getting into this track. Only "Miss Independent" stuck with me at all, though the video where she reflects upon the price of fame while watching The Princess Diaries 2 was slightly amusing.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

I know she covers "Just Missed the Train" on her first record, which was written by Gregg Alexander and originally recorded by Danielle Briseboise. So I guess I've had a sweet spot for Ms. Clarkson for awhile now.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

That's a really dumb looking hat she puts on at the end of the video. My favorite parts of the song are when she does really vulnerable things with her voice that Paul Banks would never do, like the "I JUST can't take it" yelp on the bridge and the way she cracks on the "wahahant" near the end.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

I'd play it right after "Slow Hands" next time I DJ if that didn't seem excessively nerdy.

miccio (miccio), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

I'd suggest a mash-up, but it already kind of is one.

PeopleFunnyBoy (PeopleFunnyBoy), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

It's a good tune, and, as has already been pointed out elsewhere, it ought to be The Way Ahead for Ms. Clarkson.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

I really fucking hate this song.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

I really enjoy this song. Anyone else notice a strong resemblance to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps"? Especially at the little bridge about two-thirds of the way through.

Gregory T (tubesocks), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

I love this song. I hate that "Breakaway" song.

Molly, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

FYI there's four or five other songs in this style on her new disc, none as good as this one, but that's like comparing Mary's other children to Jesus, you know?

Eppy (Eppy), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Elmer had a lovely tenor

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

Bingo. I immediately thought of Ray of Gob. I love this song - the feedback goes on too long, like it's saying "LOOK, everyone! Notice that there is feedback on a Kelly Clarkson song! Therefore, it rocks! Be impressed!" Except that it does rock, and I am impressed.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

No, it does that because IT'S THE BEST POSSIBLE CHOICE FOR THE SONG AND JUST MAKES IT EVEN MORE AWESOME rarrgh blump.

Eppy (Eppy), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

my kids like it, although sammy thinks 'breakaway' is better
