Immense; No thread? Am I alone?

They were haunting, weird, compelling, sometimes rocked, screams to whispers.Thought provoking samples. Time changes/non -four four that actually worked. In places quite beautiful. For fans of Hood and, dare I say it, Slint.

They were from Bristol UK , I think and there was something like a twenty five/thirty year age gap between the two main members.

I have two of their albums and I love them both, although the second one is better.

Not sure if they are still around.
Anybody else care?

Apologies if I failed to use the search engine properly. I tried twice. Honest. Here's me dreading 557 Immense threads, although I somehow doubt it.

I saw them about 3 or 4 times around the release of the first album. Patchy shows, which were dependent on Dave (? the guy that played the keyboards) and how quickly he could get back from London. I remember him watching a whole show from beside me because his train had been delayed.

I think they're somehow related to the Azalea City Penis Club, who I haven't managed to see yet, and Kiska (who I had assumed to have split up, but apparently played in December).

actually immense split up last february. dave, the drummer, plays in Azalea City Penis club, Kiska (whenever they get round to doing stuff) and Gravenhurst. tom, the guy who did keyboard stuff, does some stuff with the singer, Phil. Patrick, the older guy, does some garage-y stuff, james the bass player is doing some hardcore band i think and having played in a few different things over the last year am just finishing off an Audiowhore record which is due out sometime this year i hope and also started a new project called The Downs.
thanks for the nice words. I agree the shows were pretty patchy sorry about that!

Thanks Thomas - I guess that means I should really have made the effort to get to that show at the Croft (was it still the Comedy Pub at the time?) which I think must have been about the last one. Bugger.

I think I'll go home and put the Zan Lyons/Immense 10" on.

Thats a shame

I started the thread on another pc...

Why is it some bands who show such great potential split up, when others persist pollute the airwaves for aeons with their dullness.

Off the top of my head, three that should have stuck with us
Immense
Dismemberment Plan
The Grifters

I can name a million that should just go away but can't be bothered

Lairy Hair (hullcity), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

don't know if you know but travis from dis plan put a solo record out on barsuk recently, i didn't hear it but it got pretty panned on pitchfork. Eric the bass player plays in a band with ex promise ring people called maritime but they are total pony.

oh and dave shouse from the grifters is in a band called bloodthirsty lovers.

cheers!

Never heard the Bloodthirsty Lovers. Any good? I did enjoy Those Bastard Souls though.

Awaiting the Grifters reunion, me.
