Has anyone here built themselves a media centre PC, i.e. like a Shuttle XPC or similar style small form-factor computer and set it up as their vcd-playing, mp3 jukebox, web-access for your tv box?

i'm looking for what kind of idea's you guys have thought for these kinda things, coz i'm contemplating whether to buy/build one. also - have any of you got one of those specific media-orientated ones that come with a remote? is it worthwhile?

oh screw you with your over-priced, under-spec'd piece of shit...

i'd be all over them if they'd actually put a decent amount of RAM in the stupid thing, though

I think a Mac Mini would be a great choice for this application, provided you have some hefty networked storage. You don't need more than 512mb ram (if that!) for the type of thing you're describing.

whats the point of an all-in-one pc that only has enough ram to (just barely) boot? the apple.co.nz website doesn't even offer RAM upgrades yet, making them essentially useless!

256mb is the bain of home pcs.. what is this, the dark ages?

You should probably email them about that - they should probably be made aware of it.

Either that or consider getting yourself an Xbox and modding it.

(upside being that you can get a remote for the xbox)
