oddly enough, a lot of my friends who complain about ipods are the ones who've by and large stopped listening to music so much. the cds/vinyl are in storage, the stereo is mainly used for parties.. friends who have them, meanwhile, have gotten really into trading new stuff and archiving/updating their collections and things like that.

Ipod party= undergrads drinking boones listening to bright eyes or 80's hits they don't remember OR it professionals drinking expensive wine and listening to Bruce Hornsby and The Range at a dinner party at a fashionable address.
Record Player Party = drinking beer till 7am and listening to Dub Housing over and over.

This was the #1 reason why I bought one once I had a bit of disposable cash. I was wasting so many cd-rs that it was just getting ridiculous in terms of money spent on cd-rs, and space taken up by cd-rs that I ought to just throw away cos they were ephemeral mix cds meant for walks and train rides.

"So popular is the iPod [with Microsoft employees], executives are increasingly sending out memos frowning on its use."
You're either with Microsoft, or you're...
Sounds like a fun place to work. And happiness is slavery.

Why DON'T they offer them in other colors, seriously? I mean they match the iBook, what if you ahve a Powerbook? Why no silver? And shut the fuck up about the iPod minis, I kind of wanted to blow up the apple store the first time I saw one of those.
Maybe I should just get a new discman?

Well you have to buy the sleeve anyway (not just for looks) cuz if you don't and you drop your iPod you're gonna be very unhappy.

I like the blinding white medical look personally. My biggest aesthetic problem with the device is that it doesn't have a simple on/off button. I have to press the play/pause part of the wheel *just right* and it's really annoying when I'm walking somewhere and arrive and want to quickly turn it off. It never cooperates when I need it to.

I really like the pause feature because I use the iPod in the car with a cassette adapter. I get to work, unplug it, go inside and I can plug in my headphones and pick it up the tune in the same place without thinking about it.

Is is bad for the ipod to charge it when the battery says it is half full? I try not to charge it unless it's just about empty.

No, it's not bad at all. Lithium batteries like the iPod's have no 'memory' and charging them when half full doesn't wear them out more quickly at all.
Everyone once in a while it's good to run the charge dry, but only to help recalibrate the charge meter accurately.
― Alba (Alba), Thursday, 3 February 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)
Thanks for the battery info Alba. I've never been a science/tech guy so I just go on guesses and past mistakes.
