100 good blue-eyed soul numbers

Not to be racist against white people, but good ones are hard to come by.

For #100, I pick "Miracles" by Jefferson Starship. When he sings, "I wanted to taste the world, so I went down on you," or whatever its is, that's slightly bad ass.

Sure songs like that are rare, but there must be more. Hall & Oats or some shit.

Van Morrison to thread, please.

Austin (Austin), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Money Mark's singing voice was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO(infinity) wasted during his time with the Beastie Boys.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

What was that thing that sampled "A Fifth of Beethoven" about 2 years ago? By Alan Thicke's kid? That was pretty cool.

Austin (Austin), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

"When I Get You Alone"! That's the one.

Austin (Austin), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

Didn't we start out in descending order?

92. Charlie Rich - "Hurry Up Freight Train"

briania (briania), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

91. George Michael, "Cowboys and Angels"

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Charlie Rich might well own this thread. "Memphis and Arkansas Bridge," "Big Boss Man," "Who Will the Next Fool Be."

Dan Penn comes to mind--"Nobody's Fool" is a great one.

Little Stevie Winwood, early on, "Gimme Some Lovin'."

The Box Tops: "Soul Deep," "Cry Like a Baby," "She Shot a Hole in My Soul," "Turn on a Dream."

That's 10 right there.

es hurt (ddduncan), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

God, if we're allowing Charlie Rich it'd have to be the demo of "Feel Like Goin' Home." Though whether that's "soul" is debatable.

Dark Horse, Wednesday, 2 February 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

I'm going back to ascending order.

10-19. All of "Abondoned Luncheonette"

That's 90-81 for you descending types.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

"Feel Like Going Home" is soul, I mean of course that is. Great.

es hurt (ddduncan), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

I've been trying to forget this indigestible bolus of dullness my whole life.
