Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 2 February 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

i've got some too. mail me if ya want.

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Thursday, 3 February 2005 09:47 (twenty years ago)

50?!? How do you get that amount? Not that I want more invites, I'm just curious.

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Thursday, 3 February 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

thanks mr fever

zappi (joni), Thursday, 3 February 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

i've got 50 of the fuckers too. they've redesigned it slightly so the invite box is less intrusive ... and given me more invites than i could ever use.

weesimon AT geemail DOT com if anyone wants one

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 3 February 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

I just noticed that I got 50 invites as well. Doubt if anyone still needs one. But hey if you do, send me an email.

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

hey! they just withdrew mine! did this happen to you, too?

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Thursday, 3 February 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Ah go on, I'll have one. I've been trying to get a gmail account for ages. remove the REMOVE from my email addy and send us one - go on!

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 3 February 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

i'd send you one, john, but i'm at work using shitty IE5.1 on Mac OS9 and have to use gmail lite (crappy PHP wrap thing) to check my mail. i can't work out how to send invites from that, but i'll gladly send you one when i'm back home.

or 50, if you want :)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 3 February 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Cheers Stevie! I'll sort me out an account when I get home. Cheers anyways simon.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 3 February 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

At this point, why do they bother keeping the 'beta' invite only format? Surely any hype created by this air of exclusivity has passed.

Baaderonixxx le Jeune (Fabfunk), Thursday, 3 February 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

If anybody who has an overbundance of these invite things wants to send me one at the above address, I would be overjoyed. I'm not sure what I'd do with a gmail account, but I guess I'd like one anyway. To be like the cool kids. Thanks, if.

stewart downes (sdownes), Thursday, 3 February 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

oh, i suppose i could do with another email account...if anyones still looking to pass along invites, do so to bb at repellentzine dot com.

b b, Thursday, 3 February 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Someone speculated that Gmail actually is available to the public in a way, because almost everyone online knows someone with an account. But no one's going to supply a known spammer with several accounts.

It's a theory, anyway.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

hey thanks to everyone for sending invites...but 3 are enough.

cheers

b b, Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

Weird, the maximum number of invites I've ever had has been 6. I've given away a few, but when it replenishes it always only goes up to 6.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

I'll take one. Someone sent me one a while back but I got busy and by the time I clicked the link it expired.

chris herrington (chris herrington), Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

i got a gmail account just so i could have the address i wanted in case it ever became useful. but i never use it. the appeal completely eludes me.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

i really, really like the conversational threading. that's what does it for me.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

interesting. i hate the conversational threading. it confuses me, makes it hard to find new emails, and other such stuff. i'd like to do any such organizing myself, rather than have my computer do it for me, pretending it knows how i want things to be arranged.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

I like it, but after awhile I start feeling like I want to delete things, which is apparently forbidden.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Thursday, 3 February 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

inasmuch as i ever do use it, pretty much ALL i do is delete things. (using the "move to trash" pull-down option.)

he he ... just my thoughts ...

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

If anybody wants to give me one, send it to the address next to my name. It works. Thanks.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

gotcha

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

I would appreciate one. Thanks in advance.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

I like Gmail. Just archive and forget it then search later. Plus it's the best way to e-mail MP3s.

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

When I got my Gmail invitation, I created an address that I don't like now. Is there any way to change the address itself? Or do I need to send myself an invitation at my 3rd email address, set it up the way I want it, and delete the original Gmail account?

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

no. and yes.

Jay-Kid (Jay-Kid), Thursday, 3 February 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

I sometimes have unrelated emails threaded. How the feh does that happen? But hey I like the interface. I like it more than hotmail and yahoo.

stevie nixed (stevie nixed), Thursday, 3 February 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

chris, walter: you should have invites. woo. 48 to go. anyone else?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 3 February 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

Is there any advantage to Gmail now that Yahoo and Hotmail have upped their attachment sizes?

noodle vague (noodle vague), Thursday, 3 February 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

the lovely conversational threading!

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 3 February 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

The only thing I like about it is that I could get my name without any numbers, underscores or anything else in my address - makes it easier to tell people my email address and them to remember it. And that is it.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 3 February 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Simon, Stevie and Jay.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 3 February 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

I've love one too

milmilmilmilmil@hotmail.com

Mil (Mil), Thursday, 3 February 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

The search feature makes it much much better than yahoo and hotmail, as far as I'm concerned.

Baaderonixxx le Jeune (Fabfunk), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

the conversational threading is definitely useful if you're on a discussion list with high traffic, makes it more like a message board.

thomas (thomas), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

I would very much appreciate a gmail invite... Thanks to whoever sends me one.

We Hate All Movement (Brian Now!), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

If anyone is looking to unload an invite, I'll take one.
