ipods have many problems, one i've heard is that sometimes ALL your mp3 files get deleted and there is nothing you can do. this has just happened to me, and actually it's awful, I've found MP3Restore here: http://www.subrosasoft.com/thestore/product_info.php?cPath=89&products_id=428 but I think this is just for Mac...so would anyone be able to point me in the direction of reliable restore software for windows?? i would be very very grateful!!

Never heard of this problem. The files got deleted from your computer or just your iPod?

hey, i was gone for a second, came back and there was nothing on my itunes, the bar said there was 37 Gbs left, after i knew i'd filled over half of it. i reckon i selected to delete something in the library, it momentatiry froze, flicked to the ipod section and deleted everything. p a i n i n t h e a s s

Anapod Explorer by Red Chair software recovers missing tracks on a ipod and repairs problems cause by other software. They have a free demo at http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/ I even paid for the real program cause I can't stand itunes, but maybe the demo will work for you.

or you could go into dos and supposing you haven't written anything on the hard drive you should be manually able to recover all of the files.
granted I don't have a clue how to do that but it is possible. a bit of research should do you proud.

seven months pass...
Okay so I have this problem. My itunes folder got wiped due to an accident in the terminal (I left out a "). Fuckfuckfuck.
Does anyone know of a good program for restoring the 18.5 gigs I have on my ipod? I found one program online last night, but you have to pay if you're trying to move over 250 songs.
Or is there a way to do this in terminal? Any help would be appreciated.

You'd think it would ask if you "really want to delete all your music?"!!!

Senuti?

Lukas (lukas), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Do you really want to delete all your music? (Proceed) (Cancel)
Did you seriously read what I just asked you? (Proceed) (Cancel)
Lemme get this straight. You honestly want to delete your music? (Proceed) (Cancel)
As in all of it, I'm saying. The whole library. (Proceed) (Cancel)
Even that fucking Keane song you won't stop listening to. (Proceed) (Cancel)
And you're not gonna come back whining like a pussy about how it's all lost? (Proceed) (Cancel)
You're not gonna be all "stupid computer ate my files, boo hoo?" (Proceed) (Cancel)
Alright, dude. Last chance. (Proceed) (Cancel)
Seriously, this is the last one. You're sure. (Proceed) (Cancel)
You know what? Nevermind. I'm not taking the risk. (Cancel)

I know. I thought I knew what I was doing. Then the process was taking too long. Then I started freaking out. Then it was too late. And now I have 24 free gigs on my hard drive. wtf.
What is senuti?

wmlynch (wlynch), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah I meant to say I'm not actually on Windows, but this thread was what came up in my search. It's my powerbook.

wmlynch (wlynch), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Senuti won't work. It's 10.3 and above. I'm on 10.2.8. Lame.

wmlynch (wlynch), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

I used ephpod. Worked beautifully. Good luck.

veritay, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, you're mac. that won't help. Maybe copypod or podUtil?

veritay, Tuesday, 27 September 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Thanks. I found this one too: [a href="http://www.thelittleappfactory.com/application.php?app=iPodRip"]ipodrip[/a] that looks like it may do what I need. I'm not freaking out yet, but if this doesn't work I think I'll cry.

wmlynch (wlynch), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

i don't know if this is true for macs as well, but if you're using windows and your ipod is connected, it shows up as an external drive and you can view/copy all the files on it. on my computer the path looks like F:\iPod_Control\Music.

faith popcorn (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

I don't think it will automatically show the hidden files on a mac. But I haven't tried it yet. I'm going to try ipodrip tonight. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks for the help.
