You tell me. I'm more northern than you. Except Pash, who is the same northern as me.

I only found out a few weeks ago that Gedge is a neighbor of mine.

donut christ (donut), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:54 (twenty-one years ago)

No.

Elvis, McFadden/Goodrem, and Eminem make-up the top three. Bloc Party and Duran Duran also top 10.

Wedding Present were 39 in the midweeks, so that means they'll almost definitely not be top 40 come Sunday.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Also missing the top 40 this week: Lil Jon. Bad news for broadsheet music hacks wanting to write the same "OMG CRUNK IS TEH FYOOCHURRR" article they've been peddling for the past 6 months.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 4 February 2005 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Could they have not done it with the record that was number one the week before last?

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 4 February 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Stay tuned for Sunday when I'll be standing in for Will on the Top 40 run-down. Sadly I am not blessed with JK & Joel, but Edith etc will be providing much to mock.

Abby (abby mcdonald), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm thinking of making a pitch to Resonance to do a Pick Of The Pops-style weekly programme where I count down an old Top 40, playing all 40 records in full and commenting/musing on them in my unique style, i.e. lots of philosophical digressions, arcane references, unlikely aesthetic comparisons, post-traumatic stress therapy blah blah blah. But would anyone else listen?

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 4 February 2005 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Edith will be better than Wes. I don't know about JK and Joel. Or Marcello obviously.

Bad news for broadsheet music hacks wanting to write the same "OMG CRUNK IS TEH FYOOCHURRR" article they've been peddling for the past 6 months.

the Telegraph did this yesterday! I found an abandoned copy on the Tube. It was a bit strange - I think they concluded that Ciara is not crunk because, er, she has a work ethic, then they called "Goodies" a 'witty ode to chastity'.

but yeah, as Marcello says the whole 'crunk is the future' thing is easily illustrated by the one No 1 this year which wasn't Elvis.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I would, except I always forget to listen to Resonance and never know what's on it (xpost)

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I really enjoy doing radio programmes. It's very comforting when you try something for the first time and find that you're actually pretty good at it. The only thing is, so far I work better with a script. On my last Clear Spot programme I tried doing it without a script and there was a lot of um-ing and ah-ing which was a bit embarrassing, but that can be worked at and improved with experience. OK, it would to an extent be Radio Koons-RDTHM, but I'm sure I could pull it off.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 4 February 2005 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard you Marcello but will try to in future

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 4 February 2005 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Abby - it's not Edith... it's Colin. And Jo Whiley.

For my return, though, I get Vernon Kay and Spoony. Whoo.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 4 February 2005 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

my god all they need now is Jimmy Carr and I'll be convinced that they're deliberately trying to get the Worst People In The World to do this show.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 4 February 2005 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd still quite like to do a Top 40 run-down. do the kids still call it Pop-Eye?

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Friday, 4 February 2005 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I only found out a few weeks ago that Gedge is a neighbor of mine.

Oh so HE'S the upstairs neighbor who smokes out all the time...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 February 2005 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

More on the main question:

HMV had run out of the single. Virgin had two copies left. I bought one.

You never know.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 4 February 2005 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't like it enough to buy it as a single. i've got it on the album - SHIT, i need to actually write that review, FUCK - and it's OK. interstate 5 stomps it.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 4 February 2005 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I only found out a few weeks ago that Gedge is a neighbor of mine.

Ah! He must have moved up from Queen Anne then. Although I suppose you aren't far from Queen Anne anyway. Part of me wondered whether he still lived here or not. By the sound of "Interstate 5" I would have thought he'd want to get the hell out of here!

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 4 February 2005 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I'll settle for no 34.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 7 February 2005 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i missed something, why is elvis in the #1 slot? is there another remix out or something?

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 7 February 2005 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

he's not and there isn't

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Monday, 7 February 2005 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Martika is number 1 with Toy Soldiers, yes!

You can read Gedge's pick of fave albums at Amazon
if you like.
MBV, The Fall, The Strokes.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

well, he was number twoor something (elvis, that is; are you lonesom tonight)....why is this in the charts right now?

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 7 February 2005 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Sony are re-issuing all his number one singles. most of them are making #1 as a result (plus you only need to sell 10-20,000 to get there now)
