La Monte (La Monte), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

No Gavin McInness DJing? He's sold out.

John Foxx = original lead dude of Ultravox

Autolux = LA neo-gaze/Radiohead, not bad at that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

autolux are an LA scenester band with a guy from Failure and a really cute female drummer. they're really loud and they weren't friendly when they played on a bill with my friends.

I can't believe gallo didn't ask Yes! I totally thought he would. This is still another super fucking boring US ATP.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

Olivia Tremor Control?!?

this looks way better than Coachella this year.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 February 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

wait somehow I missed that Olivia Tremor Control were on there. That's exciting. I'm still not going to go though. (xpost)

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

a guy from Failure

Ah, THAT'S the reason...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Afrirampo is spectacular fun and very boredoms-ish. Saw them live in the middle of last year and wanted to marry both of them.

One of them is named Oni and the other is named Pika!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

it's not a US one and I don't think this is the final line-up.

La Monte (La Monte), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

OTC is terrible live. At least they were a few years ago when I saw them. Vincent Gallo's Brown Bunny co-star was in attendance.

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

Cheryl Tiegs went to an OTC show?

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 February 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

I was violently ill last time I saw OTC, so that could explain why I thought that they were really terrible live.

Leon the Fatboy (Ex Leon), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Afrirampo feature in dusted.
http://www.dustedmagazine.com/features/347
Magic Markers feature, too.

OTC reunion seems completely pointless since Circulatory System are a lot better. Especially live.

Trip Maker (Sean Witzman), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Nicole, trust me, they really were just dull. (They were even more dull a few years later opening for Stereolab.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

I thought for sure that Mr. Gallo would invite a whole huge diverse rainbow-like spectrum of acts to be on the bill, and am therefore highly disappointed!

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Friday, 4 February 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

I was kinda "eh" on OTC live when I saw them, altho ending with them all marching offstage while playing, like a marching band, was cool. I was more impressed by the Music Tapes onstage antics with the singing television and the giant hand-clapper (and even that didn't exactly make up for their crappy material). I'm just surprised, I guess I expected them to forever splinter into ever smaller subdivisions, rather than "reunite". Dunno how much I care, I really only like a handful of things from them. (NMH was far superior)

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 February 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Even that marching thing was kind of corny. They marched on stage playing all kinds of junk when I saw them-blowing on some pennywhistles, banging on various percussion instruments "found" and otherwise. I kept thinking they had ransacked a rec room for this stuff- onne guy was banging on an upside down coffee can, and all I could picture was that can had held crayons up until the guy dumped them out right before the show. When they got up stage the lead guy kept yelling at (all) the other guys things like "Would you just stop? Stop right now! I can't believe you!"

An earlier act on the bill was the Dirty Three who, needless to say, had their act together.

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 4 February 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Ken, I'm pretty sure I was at the same OTC show as you a few years ago- was it in New York? At South Street Seaport, I think? Chloe Brown Bunny was there, as I remember.

I thought OTC were great. I've seen Circulatory System as well and I liked OTC better- more energy. Dirty Three were very good.

Shakey Mo, OTM with the Music Tapes. Material was pretty weak, but the antics were amusing. Damn you for seeing NMH live- I'm jealous.

cdwill, Friday, 4 February 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

Are they gonna try a NYC ATP? again?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 4 February 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

oh I've never seen NMH live, I just meant in general they were far and away the best of the E6 bands.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 4 February 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

xxpost:
Yup, that was the show. You don't remember the guy yelling at the other guys?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 4 February 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure- do you mean Bill Doss (I think) yelling at the rest of the band?

cdwill, Friday, 4 February 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

x-post

No question that NMH were the best. Wish they'd do something again.

cdwill, Friday, 4 February 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

xpost:
Yes. That didn't detract from your enjoyment of the show?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 4 February 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

Is yoko ono not playing anymore? The very idea of yoko playing with otc (one of my all-time favorites, though i never got to see them live) made me pee my pants when i read it in pitchfork.

megan m. (bang-clank equipment), Friday, 4 February 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
We got Joh Frusciante, Yoko Ono, and Sean Lennon added! Plus Peaches & Suicide?

I'm going! Anyone else?

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Thursday, 24 March 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)
