Crispin Glover

I'm talking about Crispin Hellion Glover, not Crispin J. Glover, the eurodance dj guy. Did anyone see "Rubin & Ed"? Is it not just about the best movie ever made? Does anyone have his CD? I dowloaded it off Napster. I don't think I'd shell out dough for that kind of cd. But, what do you think of his music? What do you think of his "art"? Does he overact and then underact-- does he do exactly what he's NOT supposed to do as an actor and is that what makes him so great? Incidentally, he's got two movies coming out. Any info on them? I know a little about them both, but not much.

i went to one of george mcfly's slide shows a few years back, he tried to be creepy. i don't remember if he was.

keith, Monday, 5 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

after he made loads of $$ from the back to the future series, he republished a book from the late 1800s on how to kill cats in various ways. he's a bizarre man.

ethan padgett, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My chief memory of Crispin Glover is of his exceedingly odd appearances on chat shows in the late 80s.

Didn't he have some kind of music box filled with soil which he was keen to show Jonathan Ross on The Last Resort? Late Night too - I recall Letterman beginning the following week's show with a clip from Glover's segment (Crispin has rotting eyeballs in a suitcase, keeps reading from newspapers cuttings which malign him, almost kicks Dave in the head) as if part of a nightmare; Letterman wakes in alarm, and tells his crew (who are naturally gathered around his bed) about his terrible dream. "No, Dave - that really happened... but it's ok, we followed him home and killed him". "Yeah - I smothered him with this pillow". Cheery smiles all around.

Perfectly cast in "Wild At Heart".

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love Crispin Glover! Anyone see him on David Letterman? "I'm strong, and I can KICK!"

"Elaine?" "Yes George" "You... you are my density." "Your what?" "My density." "Uh" "Oh, I mean, my destiny..."

Tim Baier, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What was that movie he was in with Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper?...I cant remember the name of it. It was fantastic anyway.

Michael Bourke, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Crispin Glover was in Speed??? I need to rewatch that film.

Ally, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He was in the third segment of The Beaver Trilogyso he's OK.

JM, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, it wasnt Speed..it was Rivers Edge...well maybe he was in Speed too...

Michael Bourke, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dennis Hopper is in River's Edge??? WTF, my mind is turning to mush, I don't remember that either. I've had a very stressful week.

Ally, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally: Then we should go get pissed, shoudn't we?

JM, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Still no mention of his role as slick smoking bad guy in Charlie's Angels? He was really enjoyable in that role, one of the many reasons why this film was excellent.

Omar, Wednesday, 7 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally, come on-- FINCH? The guy with the blow up doll?! Like, a major oddball in the flick? That was Dennis Hopper. Other than his "don't you fuckin' look at me" role in Blue Velvet, this was one of his cooler weirdo roles.

, Wednesday, 7 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, wait, I think he was "Fez". Finch is the guy on "Just Shoot Me"

, Wednesday, 7 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no, Fez is the guy on that 70s show.

JM: Yo, email me, when you wanna go get pissed? I'm up for that any time. Except tomorrow night.

Ally, Wednesday, 7 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey jimmy have you seen 'the orkly kid' -- i saw it when i saw CG read/perform from 'the big problem' back in college and it was SO GREAT, and oh my god i want to see the beaver trilogy SO BADLY, because really at times the movie was unnerving. CG is the only non-gene wilder person who could play willy wonka. and yes i have his cd, and mixing 'rat catching' with fifth column's 'detox killer (erotic thriller)' is something you should try, i think.

maura, Wednesday, 7 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Best i've seen in LITTLE NOISES (1990?)with whats-his-name from The Young Ones. cameo in DEAD MAN was something. Supposed to have a mongoloid theatre troop in L.A.

Hello, Dennis Hopper's character in "The River's Edge" is named FECK, not FINCH. Oh, any new reactions to Crispin in "Bartleby" ?

......crispin is fantastic in bartleby,as he is in all the films he graces with his talent.........

elizabeth borden, Thursday, 12 February 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Crispin is great, but his music is pretty bad. I have a copy of the album on vinyl somewhere and about the only things on it worth listening to are 'Clowny Clown Clown' and his version of 'These Boots are Made for Walking.' (I guess the spoken word bits are alright too.)

His books are totally messed up though: he's a little too fixated on Nazis, rats and deformed children.

mmmmsalt (Graeme), Thursday, 12 February 2004 03:38 (twenty-one years ago)

He has this extremely disturbing rant against Steven Spielberg included in the book "Apocalypse Culture Vol. 2" (I believe that's what it's called). Apparently, he hangs out with David Lynch sometimes, if that explains anything.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 12 February 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Crispin Glover making out with a girl (and it really definitely was a young lady) at a drag bar on Polk Street. He definitely looks very strange IRL.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 12 February 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

WILLARD was a joy--I mean, Crispen was. He is incapable of creating a single normal moment.

Ian Grey (Ian_G), Thursday, 12 February 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to see him riding his bicycle all over Hollywood in the late '80s. He was usually wearing a safari outfit, pith helmet and all.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 12 February 2004 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

A friend of mine dated him back in the day (and by "dated" I mean she went out with him once and he stalked her for a few months). She said that he was creepy in a way that was really uninteresting. His obsessions/fetishes are about as deep is it gets. Basically, he wore cowboy boots and a too-tight black turtleneck that revealed his nips and wanted to watch really lame movies all the time. I have no idea why I just told this story. I guess because he's not so much of a freak, but a geek.

Playa Hata, Thursday, 12 February 2004 05:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been saddled with honorary title of 'Crispin Glover lookalike' my whole life until I got fat and grew a beard. That'll show 'em. I have memories of college orientation, dudes screaming from dorm windows "Hey You...get your damn hands off her!!!" etc etc

The album is sorta weak - tho I agree the one about the Clown is hilarious, and the Flying Trapeze song is great. But overall, too Dr Demento / Rolly Poly Fish Heads kinda music.

A friend of mine is obsessed - owns all the books (some of which are just old books with lines scratched out) and stuff.

Apparently Mr Glover hangs out with the Feral House / Adam Parfrey crew, and I know he's buds with Boyd Rice. Is he a Satanist?

Overall, as an actor and personality...pretty classic.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 12 February 2004 05:32 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, he hangs out with David Lynch, the Feral House/Adam Parfrey/Boyd Rice crowd, has a medical chair in his house, directs movies starring retarded people, has been known to wear a safari hat and pith helmet while riding a bike...he must have a checklist somewhere titled, "Things That Will Freak People Out (and get me stripper girlfriends)".

Parents, this is what you get when you give "Hellion" as a middle name to your child.

is he related to danny glover

fyad fyad lol, Sunday, 22 August 2004 03:21 (twenty years ago)

His performance in the Willard remake, I'm convinced is one of the greatest acting performances of the decade. It was quite heartfelt.

The aforementioned essay he wrote about Spielberg in Apocalypse Culture 2 was actually really good. Disturbing and thought provoking in a culturally beneficial way; an uncommon intelligent criticism of politically correct middle class morality.

I haven't yet but I'd like to hear his music.

herbert hebert (herbert hebert), Sunday, 22 August 2004 04:01 (twenty years ago)

oh i agree, the essay pushes some buttons. but that's almost the whole point of that book, innit?

He'a great guy. No, he is not Satanist, but Rice neither really. Yeah, Rice is a member of it, but he actually normal guy.
Crispin is one the greatest actors of all time. I thought he is very weird when I firts began to interest in him, but then it becomes absolutely clear that he is a normal guy.

his character, layne, in river's edge is easily my film favorite. i used to listen to an audio tape of that movie just to memorize his lines. every word is classic and endlessly quotable (though quoting from films is never really okay).

d. mitha (ykeo), Tuesday, 16 November 2004 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Search the movie "Twister" (not the big-budget Holly Hunter one; the mid-'90s indie film).
