I still listen to the album regularly. Beautiful stuff.
And that song from last year (or whenever it was) was pretty nice too. More upbeat and shit.

Last night at Knitting Factory was pretty good, though I prefer him solo or with one other guy playing banjo, and last night was with a full band. Still, pretty good show.

Hey - if you're talking about who I think you're talking about and I assume you must be (http://www.deathvessel.com/) then Joel was a friend of mine from uni and I agree he's amazingly talented. Have you hear his old band Stringbuilder (http://www.stringbuilder.com/) that was him and his brother and was also very good.

Yeah they lived there for a while - late 1990s - early 2000s. Think J may be back there now actually.

True but that's part of what makes it so good!

Thought that Sub Pop record would blow up. Shows what I know. Just jammin' his Daytrotter session, though - underrated dude.

the first album still rocks. love his voice and the songwriting is solid - especially "Break the Empress Crown".

"Bruno's Torso" is still gorgeous and still a fave. A Maine connection, which we Mainers don't often get to say about good music. I'll go grab the Daytrotter. Thanks.

I meant to say "Mandan Dink" -- still don't know what the hell they are singing about but it's a great tune.

Apparently it's about one of his high school teachers who wore highwater pants all the time. That's what he told me, anyway. Background vocalist on that sounds like he'd been transported from the Harry Smith Anthology. Was it Riley Puckett who sang "Ragged But Right?"
