I saw her in Cambridge last night and it was fantastic. I've kind of come late to MIA, and missed all the fites about her authenticity etc. Anyway, blow that, her dancing ROOLZ. Plus they were selling Piracy Funds Terrorism, which I hadn't been able to get hold of.
(Actually, the identity politics and everything - "the discourse of significance" that has surrounded her is really interesting - but you have to be made of stone to resist the sound and personality of it all to think about stuff like that. + there are other threads for that)

Yeah! from Bristol.

I thought it was good (though i enjoyed Diplo's DJ set beforehand perhaps more). Everybody i saw just looked confused. And i think M.I.A expected more of a reaction. She seemed to be trying to get the crowd to join in at the start of 'sunshowers'.

haha Steve I made him an offer he couldn't refuse. (actually I think Matt's decision to attend was unrelated to my email!)

MIA was pretty damn cool, though I'm totally wondering why the vrai or faux debate is even being had when it's massively obvious from seeing her that the answer is FAUX FAUX FAUX! she wore some sort of deliberately 'exotic' clothing and looked like a kid - actually, no, like an art student - dressing up. she was a lot of fun though, and reminded me of Neneh Cherry. This is a VERY good thing.

also, her dancing = WOW.

That blue and red sequined tracksuit made her look like she was in Wizbit or something. Marvellous.

Set-wise she did all of Arular with the exception of Hombre and Bingo, plus Uraqt which was a pleasant surprise. Most of the tracks were somewhere in between the Arular and Piracy Funds Terrorism versions, which gave people a few familiar hooks to grab onto.

I thought she was pretty good overall... took a while to get the crowd going but by the time Diplo dropped Sweet Dreams into 10 Dollar people were dancing.
