Lisa Miskovsky -- tell me about her

Okay, so I know there's this:

And I gather she's Swedish. I ask basically because someone somewhere had some tracks on the DC hub and I just randomly downloaded them as part of a 'well the name looks interesting enough' deal.

Now all I've heard are six or so tracks from her second of two albums, Fallingwater -- but they're *really* good. Trying to think of the best way I can describe this to my satisfaction, if someone else can aim for better feel free, but while I'm stretching a bit there's an interesting Fleetwood Mac vibe to the songs, late seventies style -- but a bit like if Christine McVie was singing the Stevie Nicks songs as well as her own. A deeper voice like McVie's but not quite as throaty. So there's that clean and sharp AOR sheen, hints of country, just enough rock sting (if she's her own electric guitarist she's great, if someone else she or he's good to have on board), lots of surprising little touches (the vocal break on "A Brand New Day," for instance). Another song called "Sing to Me" I'm listening to for the first time and man, one hell of a chorus and my god it's a great coda. And -- yes, I'm saying this! -- some good lyrics here and there, I'm thinking especially of the start of "Sweet Dreams" (which actually reminds me really musically at its start of Spiritualized's "Let it Flow"!).

Can any of the Scandinavians here say anything more? Is she more famous than I've realized?

yeah, it's not that bad I guess. The lead singer for Sweden's biggest rock act Kent (Radiohead meets The Cure) bought Miskovsky a bunch of Fleetwood Mac and Emmylou Harris records and wrote and produced the album with her. Lady Stardust was the radio hit.
Her clean-cut snowboarding image probably put a couple of potential listeners off in Sweden, as did the Max Martin-produced modern radio-geared rock of the first album.

she's definitely top 10 pop-star material in Sweden, mostly because of the Kent connection like stated above. the debut album is definitely very AOR and bored the hell out of me, but it's not offensive or anything. I guess if you like Alanis or whatever you might be into it.

I haven't heard the new one that just came out, but all the reviews I've seen so far have been quite poor.

Weird thing is I'm not an Alanis fan at all!

So there's a Kent connection on this Fallingwater album, that does explain a lot!

one year passes...
2006 album "Changes" = hot like radiators.

She wrote the lyrics to "Shape of My Heart", y'know?

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Friday, 6 October 2006 00:42 (nineteen years ago)
