St Ettiene - Girl VIIIThe Jam - Going Undergound - Down at the Tube station at Midnight The Streets - Has it come to this?
But I'm sure there must be others. Bands associated with the tube, songs recorded on the tube, field recordings of the tube and tube announcements etc etc
All suggestions warmly recieved.

I wonder if this will turn into another round of 'song titles sharing the names of Underground stations'.

Field recordings of the tube sounds like an interesting idea though!

I think the Elvis C. song "Waiting for the End of the World" takes place in the tube but it just says "train" and "stations" so it could be an intercity train.

* Stephen Duffy's "Mao Badge" (A track that featured on his single, "17")
"Pushing and pulling, And trying to make my way Through the crowd on the underground. I'm just a man And I hope that I can be true Like I've never been true before."
** Nick Drake's "Parastite"
"And I’m sailing downstairs to the northern lineWatching the shine of the shoesAnd hearing the trials of the people thereWho’s to care if they lose."
*** Momus's "Homosexual"
"One stop past Embankment and the coughs begin:Hell hath no fury like an insecure Englishman."
**** The Wombles' "Wombling Free"
"Underground, overground, wombling free, The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we"

Alex (in NYC) I think that "Subway Song" by the Cure is about what we'd call a subway over here, i.e. a path under a road rather than the tube. I have no evidence for this except to say that it would have been unusual and self-conscious use of an Americanism by Mr. Smith if he'd meant the tube. Not that this is important, of course. It had just never occurred to me before that that song might be about an underground railway.

Every morning I go under the cityHandful of change takes me away from it allI leave my problems up on the streetAnd ride the subway where it's always warmSubways, we're all going the same directionSubways. we're all going the same speedSubways, it all gets obscuredThen it begins to make senseSee that man read his morning paperSee that woman fiddle in her purseEven though I've never ever met themI can assure you they're my best friends on thisSubway,'cause we're all sharing the motionSubway, you know it's vaguely enticingSubway, I'm under confusionNow I can relaxDown here I don't have to say anythingI just sit & look out my windowMiles flashing gray & white past my faceIt's good to get away from these pressuresDown here I have never felt guiltyTheres no sun screaming at my eyesOn this train I'm never ever lonelyPeople smile from pictures on the wall[Repeat 2nd verse][Repeat 1st verse]Subways the driver's voice says'uhn-uhn-uhn''Subways. now I'm back at my stopSubways. I can't face what's out thereSo I'm not getting off
