The new self-regulating AICON includes weekly feedback pages. What do we learn about the readers from this week? (Apart from their willingness to use Google in search of that elusive AICON clue....)

Tom, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That guy looks NOTHING like Fred Solinger.

Ally, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe the world is just full of them! That reader was thinking of one of the other Fred Solingers; perhaps one of them delivers his mail or is head of the local Harry Potter fanclub.

Nicole, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's a good point, Nicole. I mean Fred's dad is also Fred Solinger, and his brother in law is Fred but NOT solinger, perhaps he was confused. Though neither of THEM look like that guy either.

THE WORLD IS TEEMING WITH FRED SOLINGERS.

Ally, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

in an effort to slowly turn every thread into a discussion of ME and MY interests, let me add this...

my grandfather was fred solinger, and i have a cousin named fred, but his last name is not solinger. also, my brother-in-law toyed with the idea of naming both his children fred.

and yeah, that guy looks nothing like me. who said that? out with it! (my guess is mike based on the things he says.)

fred "fred solinger" solinger, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I actually thought it might be Tim, but I should have known better from the t-shirt.

Nicole, Tuesday, 6 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Although we all love Mike's twisted point of view (...), it was me, actually, who made the Solinger Hypothesis. Sorry about that, it's just that my two main readings at the moment are Microserfs and music blogs, being trapped in wintertime inertia. Cheers!

He doesn't really look like Malkmus either, but I guess indie boys will be called SM no matter what. In retrospect, Jimmy Eats World fits perfectly, but it didn't occur to me at the time. I think if the photography wasn't as moody, none of that goth stuff would have come up -- and that was what really threw people off track.

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 7 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Funnily enough Nicole, that guy *does* look a bit like me, although with less spiky hair and (according to all the responses; I couldn't tell) a bit more beefed up. But I am going to the gym, so maybe that will change...

Tim, Wednesday, 7 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BTW (back to whatever): Google search is great! But is there a band called Electra Bore?

jel, Wednesday, 7 March 2001 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

three months pass...
Er, how come on the nylpm page it announces the results of the latest aicon results but on the aicon page there's still the same old grotty (yet strangely feminine) Momus pic?

Nicole, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The NYLPM page sez something like, nobody's sent in an answer this week, come on you lot, results will be up tomorrow.

i.e. today

i.e. when I get back home after work.

Tom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nobody's sent in an answer this week

If it were a chick (to use some aicon vernacular), no matter what she looked like you'd probably have responses go up by 100%. Boys (even if they don't look particularly boyish -- was/am I blind for thinking Momus looked girly in that picture?) two weeks in a row probably isn't a good idea.

Nicole, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well no, but we were almost out of lady AICONs. However 2 or 3 girls have sent their picture in now, so normal service will be resumed.

By the way if anyone fancies running AICON instead of me, give me a shout.

Tom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I might as well, since I'm the one who complained about it to begin with.

Nicole, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wicked - I'll do tonight's and then I'll send you the extant pictures.

Tom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom, you just linked to the old site (i.e. .com and not .co.uk). I was bemused at the "no page here yet" sign for a minute and then I was deluged in popup adverts for online shopping sites and dodgy American make-cash-from-home pyramid schemes, just as my boss came back in the room. Oops. I mention this in case you want to fix that to stop them getting any hits.

Since I have now returned to working hard, noreally, honest, well, ok, pretending to work hard, I'm not looking at the page (too many pictures to look anything like what I'm meant to be doing), so I can't comment on it. Well, except to say that I too thought it might be Fred based on a photo of someone I assumed to be Fred on Ally's blog, but it wasn't me who said it was because I never have any amusing/insightful comments to send off to AICON.

Sorry to post so much. It's better than work. Tell me if you don't want me to and I'll stop bothering you all.

rebecca, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, Rebecca, PLEASE do not apologize for posting too much. You are far from outstaying your welcome. (If I may speak for the Great Unwashed that populate & moderate this board, that is.) Feel free to fire off missives as the mood strikes you, just as we all do. Revel in your unsatisfying office life. Use this time to better your aesthetic principles and hone your sarcasm, your wit, your hair- trigger bullshit meter. Embrace your love of organized noise. Embrace life!

That is all.

David Raposa, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Rebecca - what I've seen of what you've posted so far seems to me to be insightful & interesting. Please post as much as U want. What the hell - post more!

xoxo

Norman fay, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Indeed, Rebecca. The more you say, the better.
