Neon Judgement - S&D/RFI etc

I downloaded a comp off Slsk called David Bremers Synthsamling, which I can't find anything about on Google, but seems to be a comp of mostly European electro/post-punk/EBM type stuff. I'm listening to it now and apart from more well known (to me, anyway) bands like DAF and Cabaret Voltaire, one song that I really liked was called "TV Treated" by Neon Judgement.

So, tell me about Neon Judgement! Where to start, what's good, etc.

Also if anyone knows anything about the comp, i.e. where to get it etc that would be cool too.

I was always fond of their track "Don't Wish Me Luck" which was sort of this galloping "Happy Trails" cowpunk-industrial ditty.

defiantly signing his posts,

I liked "Factory Walk" a lot. That's the only song by them I really know.

Their best stuff was from 1981.. many of the vital tracks can be found on the General Pain and Major Disease compilation... "I Wish I Could" and "The Fashion Party" are noteworthy, as the first was a great slice of electro-guitar New Order type stuff that was released as New Order first released "Everything's Gone Green", which is really telling.. and "The Fashion Party" is more way-ahead-of-its-time proto-'lectroklash fodder that's better than most modern 'electro/'klash.

But I liked their spaghetti western gothy stuff as well. The "A Man Ain't A Man If He Ain't Got No Horse, Man" Ep is great, most of which is also on said compilation. "Kid Shyleen" is wonderful. Ennio Morricone meets Andrew Eldritch in J&MC cloth!

Horny As Hell was alright (1987), "Hot Sally" was a nice whiplash Prince type beat set to their filthy music.

The last noteworthy track of theirs was the very dancey "1313" of Blood and Thunder which was more spaghetti-western/industrial dance stuff with a full Sisters Of Mercy type female chorus bringin' down the chorus, and the beats bringing the shuffle back up with this semi-"rap".

donut christ otm about 'a man ain't a man....' ep. i love that record. 'kid shyleen', 'chinese black' and their version of 'i was born under a wanderin' star' are fabulous.

their big hits are 'tv treated' and 'fashion party' but that ep is where all the fun is.

"TV Treated" is arguably their best song and was a huge classic in industrial/gothic/alternative discos here in Montréal during the 80's and the 90's. Tiga remade it last year, but it's a little boring IMO. Other dancefloor hits they had include "Tomorrow In The Papers", "Chinese Black", "Miss Brown", "Kid Shyleen" and the aforementioned "Fashion Party" which they still play every week at the local electro night. "Factory Walk" is indeed another good one by them.
You can get all of these on their excellent 1989 comp called "General Pain And Major Diseases". The only problem is the version of "TV Treated" on it is different and not as good as the orignial.

xpost...

The other compilation 'First Judgements 81 - 84' is great as well, a bit more focused on new wave / synth pop due to only covering releases 81 - 84.

Tiga & Headman released some 12's last year remixing TV Treated & Fashion Party, neither managing to touch the originals.

The Box has been released, haven't heard it. Thoughts ? Doesn't look too good as a compilation.

The tryout was great! (in the AB club, in front of about 100-150 people - I won tickets via a radio station)

They played the album (pretty weird and short version of Nion, but mostly longer versions of the other tracks) and then about 8 or 10 other songs (off the top of my head (not in the right order) Sister Sue, S.T.L.G., The man who knew too much, I Wish I Could, Tomorrow in the Papers, Heroes, Chinese Black)

Woohoo! Going again tonight!

Oh, and One Jump Ahead, from the vinyl version of the album. Which loads of people won't know about since it's not on the CD. (LOL @ people knowingly looking at each other and nodding when they played that last night)
