slap bass - C or D?

for the past twenty five years of slap bass ive had to endure in the name of bass solos, i say dud. but thankyoufalletinmebemicelfagain is classic. not sure why slap bass began to sound so bad and so dominant around the 80s but if i never hear another marcus miller album again, ill be fine....

Slap bass = CLASSIC (or, at least has the POTENTIAL. Of course, anything at all can be overdone.)

The mistaken belief that bass slapping automatically makes a record FUNKY (or even FUNK; or "FUNK" for that matter) = DUD

Ha! That instrumental mix makes the verses sound quite pleasant in an "ambient wash" kinda way... to say that I never was a massive fan of Kajagoogoo would be an understatement, however I've always thought that Nick Beggs was a very good bassist.

Search for their instrumentals! There's the instrumental eponymous track and an instrumental of Hang On Now that come across similarly without the vocals.
