I think "A Day In The Life" was one of those portmanteau songs.

xenografia, Tuesday, 8 February 2005 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

on a slightly different tip, i'd nominate oasis' "some might say," which doesn't need its three distinct parts. they could've saved one of 'em for a future moment when they desperately needed a good hook. perhaps they didn't realize how soon that moment would come.

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Aren't there some Velvet Underground songs that fit the bill? "Lisa Says"? The long version of "Sweet Jane"? The left and the right track of "The Murder Mystery"?

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Blur's "Coffee and TV", I always wanted that organ part to be an intro to another song or an interlude

greg ginn thought neubauten was bullshit, why don't you? (smile), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

No way on Shangri-La. The midsection goes great with the rest, it's a perfect song all throughout, clipping it would make it much less impressive.

caspar (caspar), Wednesday, 9 February 2005 04:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know. "A Day in the Life" is pretty seamless.

"Layla," on the other hand .....

ffirehorse, Wednesday, 9 February 2005 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)
