So last night I was at a stranger's house, trying to see what records they had, and this beautiful album cover jumped out at me:

is this out of print? I haven't heard it but all the descriptions sound great.

I was sure this thread was going to be about the New Birth Brass Band, and I thought my moment had come.

i recently picked up a vinyl copy of their record Birth Day from 73, and it's pretty fucking rad. i picked it up because it was sampled by De La Soul, MF Doom, Public Enemmy & Jeru the Damaja amongst others. it's a really nice, really weird funk/soul album.

it's the one with the eggs

actually, from what looks like is in print, i'd probably suggest getting the one i posted the picture of. it's of earlier stuff than the other 2fer, and i can definitely vouch for "Birth Day"

Their allmusic bio mentions them having a hit with "K-Jee" which I'm now wondering whether that's the same song on the Saturday Night Fever OST by MFSB??? That is my favorite track on the soundtrack!!!

if you guys wanna download one song, look for "Got to get a Knutt". the clip on barnes and noble doesn't do it justice at all. it's really weird

The only song I've ever heard (it was Audiogalaxied) is "Honeybee" which has been sampled by Wu-tang Clan and is fuckin' great.

Apparently "K-Jee" *is* the same song. It has the second best horn riff ever (after "Soulful Strut").

I bought Birth day for 99 cents a couple of years ago...and it PWNZ.

One of my favorite funk/soul bands. "You Are What I'm All About" sampled by Biggie ("Players Anthem" - actually Junior Mafia).

Fave tunes: "Comin From All Ends", "It's Impossible" (Perry Como cover!), "I Can Understand It" (Bobby Womack cover), "I Wash My Hands Of the Whole Damn Deal", "Keep On Doin' It", "Afro-Strut", "Got To Get A Knutt" (love the skit where they mock t.v. commercials), "Until It's Time For You To Go" (over the top emoting).

"Gettin' down with the motivation,
Stimulating all of god's creation,
It's neat to me: Versatility,
From all four corners, from the world within,
Whosover will,
Comin' from all ends"
