The Fiery Furnaces vs Prog Rock

I believe that, at least, the Fiery Furnaces - Blueberry Boat is directly influenced by the early seventies prog rock era. eg. The Who, Genesis (Peter Gabriel era), possibly even Wings... High in synthesizers and sudden shifts, these bands are great... Even if they just inspired the Fiery Furnaces to be what they are. What are some good examples of albums that could have influenced the Furnaces?

The Who - Tommy, Quadrophenia
Genesis - Selling England By the Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Wings - Band on the Run

What are your thoughts??

I personally don't hear much Wings, Genesis or The Who in the Fiery Furnaces. Apart from synths and key changes, prog is identified by a particular lyrical style and a self-conciously high level of musicianship - both absent in the Furnaces who have a rather bland level of musicianship and lyrics not too dissimilar from other indie bands. I hear a less intense, culturally tongue in cheek thang as practiced by Pulp, Denim etc. For a true modern prog band, one must inevitably turn to the longtime masters of the genre: the Cardiacs.

If'n it were a real fight, prog would win.

I got that cheap "E.P" album, I 'get' the prog 'maybe' but I'm no prog fan so can't say.

Oh, and shouldn't that be oorwulliewallpaper?
