I want to buy some great reads for my vacation, should this be one of them? Is it well written? Amazon.co.uk synopsis doesn't tell me much:

"Told in his own inimitable style, the erstwhile maracas man from the infamous Happy Mondays, and the embodiment of the 1980s "Madchester" scene, recounts the highs and lows of his life with the band and numerous other adventures."

Fun read, but it'll be done with 30 mins in the airport departure lounge.

wilson's book-of-the-film-of 24-hour party people is very entertaining. i read that and bez's biog at the same time and laughed myself silly.

all-time must-read music book: ways of hearing, by ben thomson. (i think. can't be bothered checking, sorry.)

Ben Thomspon's Seven Years Of Plenty is excellent too. Makes a very strong case for music in the 90s, discussing different movements and trends then profiling interesting acts, largely bypassing the obvious stuff. So there are excellent interviews with Lambchop, Gorky's, Super Furries and many more along with profiles of great acts. And no Oasis. Yay!
Can be picked up for next to nothing in your local Music Zone.

45 by Bill Drummond is one of the best books I've ever read full stop, never mind music books. Read that.

I liked the Bez book but (and there's always a 'but') -like most of the music bios I've read, the interest-level goes down once the band becomes successful.

I read the Bez book many years ago. If I remember rightly it was actually written by his then wife, and in an annoying style (everything ending in -ing was written ending in in' - bangin'!). It was amusing enough, but he couldn't actually seem to remember anything about the Mondays.

45 is a cracker - as is Bad Wisdom.
