At some point (not yet) I'll put out a call for new signups -- we're going to start the rotation over again, but I might ask that everyone (including those who've already participated) sign up for their second spot, just so we can get a sense of who's still interested in continuing on with this.

To recap, if you haven't been following along: We're doing a series of collaborative mix CDs in the form of an mp3 blog called ILMiXor. A group of ILM-ers assembled in a queue, and each of us took a turn posting an mp3 relating to the chosen theme (using our own hosting space or borrowing someone else's) and writing a blurb about the track. When we reached 80 minutes, we moved to begin Disc 2, starting with the next person in line (Sasha).

The theme for Disc 2 is "Pop Top 40 From Another World." As Austin said on the first thread, "All tracks between 3 and 4 minutes, no swearing, a good beat you can dance to - otherwise go nuts." Self-explanatory.

OK kids, make one mix.

(Oh, and if this thread becomes too much to keep up with, check the recent comments on the blog for an updated queue.)

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 February 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

Most of the tracks will have to have to be closer to three minutes if we're going to fit it into 80!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 11 February 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

some of the people will have to spill over into disc 3.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 February 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

anyone else having trouble downloading the lyrics born track?

mohair (jon kapper), Friday, 11 February 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

I don't know what's causing that. In any case, you can get it at the backup storage - ilmixor at gmail dot com. login with the password ilovemusic.

Austin (Austin), Friday, 11 February 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

ooooooh. i like the theme to this one. i hope my spot pops up before we move on to disc 3...

john'n'chicago, Friday, 11 February 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

I shoulda been on this one. Nevermind.

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

This seems a point where I should probably shamefacedly admit that I have messed up a second invite by thinking "hmm I should probably check that" and pressing back and then having the invite somehow fail/count as expired :( Might I have one more chance?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

can we go ahead and move all the tracks into that gmail account?

TOMBOT, Friday, 11 February 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

I guess not since at least two tracks have disappeared for me (Romanthony and Grace Jones)

TOMBOT, Friday, 11 February 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

"backup storage!"

TOMBOT, Friday, 11 February 2005 18:24 (twenty years ago)

Fixed, but still no Romanthony. God dammit.

TOMBOT, Friday, 11 February 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

gmailing romanthony right now.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 February 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

hooray, 12%!

I can keep updating that on a regular basis from now on if that's cool with people. Not like they give me shit else to do at this job.

TOMBOT, Friday, 11 February 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

doing that right now.

also, kephm, if you're reading this, your invite status still says "pending." check your hotmail.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 February 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

Okay, worked this time! Rah.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:40 (twenty years ago)

i'm keen on going again - sign me up!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Saturday, 12 February 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

since it's friday night, i'll give sasha until tomorrow afternoon to do his post -- but if it's not up by, say, 3PM EST, gravel can go.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 04:32 (twenty years ago)

i'm guessing - as he's in melbourne and its 4 in the arvo here - that he's still in bed, nursing a hangover.

my hotmail is r.i.p.
sorry about that-
djremote@geeeemaildotcom is the current one.

come on sock it to me, Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm so excited about this because I finally got that program which turns CD tracks into mp3s to work! I also finally got a chance to listen to the Chutzpah disc - it's so good, I love everyone who contributed to it!

What are people without hosting space doing at the moment? Putting temporary yousendit links up or sending the mp3 to other people (if so who) in advance?

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

I think most people are currently using borrowed webspace. But there's no reason usendit couldn't work if regularly updated, and also the shared ilmixor gmail acount.

Austin (Austin), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

djremote@geeeemaildotcom is the current one.

sent!

But there's no reason usendit couldn't work if regularly updated, and also the shared ilmixor gmail acount.

you can just post something here saying you're putting the track on yousendit/the gmail account, and then one of us can upload and host the file for you.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

regarding how long we're going to keep the mp3s up -- i think we should keep each disc up for a certain length of time (tbd) and announce a deadline for people to grab whatever tracks they need before we take them down.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

I think most people are currently using borrowed webspace.

how does this work?

sending it to the gmail account seems like the best bet so far.

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

how about a month from the date we finish each disc (we finished disc 1 on feb 11, so we pull the mp3s on march 11, and give people a week's notice)?

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

OK by me (I burned disc 1 last night.)

Austin (Austin), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

I think most people are currently using borrowed webspace.

a lot of us have hosting space -- people without have been asking people with to host their files, and gmailing/yousendit-ing the files to them. anyway, what i just said above works too:

you can just post something here saying you're putting the track on yousendit/the gmail account, and then one of us can upload and host the file for you.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

once again, the shared gmail account is ilmixor@gmail.com, pword: ilovemusic.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

wait - can i be involved in number 2?

peter smith (plsmith), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

sign me up!

peter smith (plsmith), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

i'll say it again:

At some point (not yet) I'll put out a call for new signups

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

puzzleworth, you're up.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

(Thanks for the first disc, everyone, listening to it now, it's great!)

weather1ngda1eson (Brian), Sunday, 13 February 2005 05:06 (twenty years ago)

Belvedere Kane! what an utterly awesome way to open a mix CD!

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 13 February 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

If someone wants server space, email me the track and I'll put up on my mac account or somewhere else.

i haven't mucked with blogger in a long time - but is it possible to assign categories to the posts? thus all the disc 1 posts are filed under chutzpah and if you had archives by category then each disc could be called up with one link. or not.

gspm (gspm), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

it's all chronologically ordered anyway... as it is it's not too hard to go to the first/second week of archives for disc 1 (and there's a tracklist on the sidebar).

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

i mean, if i wanted to host this blog on my own site i guess i could install movable type, but... nah.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Is that list closed or not? If not, I'd like to send a file.

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

can you read? (sorry, i'm in a bad mood.)

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

the reason i'm doing it this way is that we still have a lot of people queued to go and i don't wanna get ahead of myself -- i'd like to at least finish disc 2 before adding more people (we'll probably be into disc 3 by the time everyone's gone).

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

its fantastic as it is jody

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

i like rules. i always have.

stockholm cindy's secret childhood (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 13 February 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

Jody, can you host my file?

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Sunday, 13 February 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

can you read? (sorry, i'm in a bad mood.)

Fine then (me too, no apologies).

Deerninja B4rim4, Plus-Tech Whizz Kid (Barima), Sunday, 13 February 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

i do see the way it is setup nw is functional (tracklist on sidebar, archival links and whatnot) but there is nothing there that strictly encloses mix 1 onto one page and mix 2 onto another page. i ain't running it, but I raised the idea to improve long-term usability.

i like the ILMixor idea. i hope it continues for a few mixes. given that I am following along religiously i don't even think i would have any personal need to have all the postings for one mix assembled on one page. just being pedantic.

gspm (gspm), Sunday, 13 February 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

I DID IT

HAHA

somebody host the track, it's in the mailbox

TOMBOT, Friday, 25 February 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

yikes, thanks tom, I thought it was safe not to check this thread today because of the people ahead of me! I can do my track tomorrow, I can also host tom's track if necessary, I just can't do it for like 12 hours.

teeeny, Friday, 25 February 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

kephm, Saturday, 26 February 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

kephm, Saturday, 26 February 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

kephm, Saturday, 26 February 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

Hey is there a thread yet where we just discuss/praise the tracks you all are posting? It seems like there oughta be, if there isn't already.

darin (darin), Saturday, 26 February 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

people are mad allergic to comment boxes it appears

kephm, Saturday, 26 February 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 26 February 2005 01:08 (twenty years ago)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 26 February 2005 06:14 (twenty years ago)

got an e-mail from bnw last night saying "i have been away from my home computer and all my mp3s for awhile. you should probably go ahead without me if you haven't already."

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

The Ark track is truly something else. Who needs the Scissor Sisters?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

i know! it's the best billy joel song the new radicals never covered!

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 1 March 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

I posted kephm's track and blurb for him. I changed my display name so that it would be posted as "kephm", but it seems as though when I change my settings back to my own name and the blog gets republished then the signature reverts back to my name. Is there any way around this?

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

nope, unless kephm gives you his login info and you repost it under his account.

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...
Where are these mix CDs now? *cough*

If, for some reason, I don't keep up with this thread feel free to e-mail me any ideas.
