here's the video:

I always thought it was one of her best songs. And I don't think they do too bad a job.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

it's on last year's album. weirdly i am still not sick of it. top 10 shoe-in i imagine.

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they do a great goddamn job of it, actually. I believe their date at the Bowery Ballroom has sold the fark out as well....and me without a ticket, yet!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I see. Hmmm...they are supposed to come here soon too...not sure exactly when. I'll go have a look see at the paper downstairs. Maybe I can get a friend of mine who wanted to go see Kasabian (ugh) go with me. Killers are coming again, too I better set my alarm so I don't forget to get tickets tomorrow for that.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Saw them the other night supporting The Killers. Very like Snuff - and there's something of the early Housemartins in their cheery provencial manner (sorry that came out far more Dickensian than I thought it would).

john-paul (john-paul), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

You hear that Alex - SNUFF???

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I mentioned Snuff to Alex is all. Dunno if he liked them or not.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, their live set is amazing and very tight. Last time they came to town I almost didn't go cuz it was on a Tuesday night, but I am so glad I changed my mind. Definitely one of the 5 or so best shows I saw in 04.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Seconded re: Futureheads live. A must see. Between-song banter was hilarious when I saw them.

cdwill, Friday, 11 February 2005 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, surprsingly I just bought a ticket to go. It turned out to be cheap and easy, and yet the first time I tried it made me think it was sold out too.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't say I'm familiar with Snuff, actually.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 11 February 2005 20:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, in case you're ever curious, there's a track by them on that mix CD I sent you awhile back.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh whoops. I'll check that out. I'm still concentrating on the Ski Patrol stuff.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 11 February 2005 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wow alex, i think you'd totally love snuff. wish i still had their recs.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 February 2005 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Expected to hate it since Hounds-era Kate Bush is at heights not reachable by mere mortals.

But, I like it. Quite a lot.

ffirehorse, Friday, 11 February 2005 23:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I missed their free show they did at Spaceland awhile back. Apparently only severe illness could keep me from it.

Dude, are you a 15 year old asian chick? (jingleberries), Friday, 11 February 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
It's too catchy, and I've looked like an idiot this afternoon singing it to myself on the bus.

Have to agree with the Snuff comparisons above as well.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Sunday, 27 February 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

It's a great version of the song. I tried listening to the album again, but that's still mainly rubbish

jellybean (jellybean), Sunday, 27 February 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

Haha...I didn't realize this was cover until last week....I've had the album and I was always thinking "Man this song is their best one by far! and then I realized it was a cover"....it's a great great cover though...I'm addicted to it!

I have finally heard this: the first time I have heard them, I think.

It reminds me of 60-Foot Dolls.

It also feels like a track on some old NME charity record in which indie rock act is sent into the studio for a cheap day to record a cover of an old song, and comes out with an unimaginative arrangement, a kind of bog-standard default setting (turn on the amps, here are the chords, OK, play for 4 minutes, mix it, give it to NME, the kids approve of the sentiment).

I'm not sure I can understand it getting any higher praise than that.

the futurefox, Wednesday, 16 March 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

i would be genuinely interested to 'see' you praise something 'recent'

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

completely and unequivocally seconded, futurefox.

N_RQ, Wednesday, 16 March 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Pinefox OTM.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

my comment seems curt, it's not meant to be

Sven Bastard (blueski), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

pinefox totally otm

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

I don't like this.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

This song was the first one (only one) I heard a few months ago on the radio and I was amazed. I thought it was great. The vocal arrangements are really cool. I still haven't heard the album yet, but if Alex in NYC likes it, with his acutely particular tastes, then I'll have to check it out.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

Incidentally, I thoroughly recommend the new Field Music single which comes out in a couple of weeks. I think the Field Music boys run the studio where Futureheads, Maximo Park etc have recorded. Like the 'heads hey've got a bit of XTC to them, but it's like if XTC had been recorded by The Neptunes or someone - it's delicate and spacious and abstract. May be my single of 05, so far!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

that name (Field Music) and that cover just made me flash back to 1988. the music made me flash back futher. i am old.

(the go team thing on the same page was nice enough though. but you told us about them months ago...)

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

I bought into the hype when this came out, but my enthusiasm wore off after a few listens. The best thing on it is the Kate Bush song. For this kind of quirky pop revivalism, I'll take Hot Hot Heat or Erase Errata.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

Indie clubs need a new banger like this.

Peter "One Dart" Manley (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 22:24 (seventeen years ago)

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 23:26 (seventeen years ago)
