Besides the food. Mr. Loaf. I accidentally typed in MEATLOAD when doing a search for Meatloaf. I think he should change his name to MEATLOAD.

Big Baby Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

What could possibly overtake someone that they would want to defend Meatloaf?

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

no need to defend him when he sang this :

http://www.qgm.com/meatloaf/lyrics/paradise.html

fckn brilliant.

piscesboy, Friday, 11 February 2005 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

his name is robert paulson

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

MEATLOAD!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The man's more than capable of defending himself - he was in "Fight Club" for G-d's sake!

But what the hell: More palatable than Meat Beat Manifesto or Archers of Loaf. (Altho less so than the Meat Puppets or Sugarloaf.)

walter kranz (walterkranz), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

He's great.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Myonga, you are insane; almost nothing is more palatable than Meat Beat Manifesto. (Also, he got killed in "Fight Club" so he's not really that great at defending himself.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

M E A T H I P P I E L O A F

Get on the Meatload, ya'll!

Pop Meaties

This means: Overwrought 70's slime.

Meat Hippies (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 18:58 (twenty-one years ago)

This is insane, the Meat/Steinman material is impeccable.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 11 February 2005 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

agreed.
Marvin is also an accomplished actor.

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 11 February 2005 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

HE WAS IN ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW! I'll defend him for that alone.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 11 February 2005 22:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually kind of like him in theory. So bombastic! Plus "aaannndd I would do ANY-thing for love....but I won't do that..." So mysterious! WHAT WON'T HE DO FOR LOVE? SOMETHING KINKY? HOW KINKY?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 11 February 2005 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

"I Would Do Anything For Love" is the best adult-contemporary gothic ballad of the '90s. There are some other decent songs on that album.

(note: I took a lot of shit in 7th grade for listening to that while all my friends listened to Dookie and Nirvana)

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Friday, 11 February 2005 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: Meatloaf v. Archers of Loaf. Say what you will about indie, but Archers of Loaf recorded the single best song in the indie canon, "Web in Front."

Derek Krissoff (Derek), Friday, 11 February 2005 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

aldo OTM. Hysterical Spectoresque brilliance.

Soukesian, Friday, 11 February 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Bat Out of Hell" is spectacular. I refuse to lower myself to having to defend it.

In other worlds, aldo_cowpat OTM.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 11 February 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed--superb.

I just wish Steinman had arranged a Meatloaf/Andrew Eldritch duet of, say, "MacArthur's Park."

iang, Friday, 11 February 2005 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh for fuck's sake. That would really be something. I'd pay money to hear that.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Friday, 11 February 2005 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

"What could possibly overtake someone that they would want to defend Meatloaf?"

Because two out of three ain't bad.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

And further proof of Meatloaf's greatness for those who didn't click on the link I posted above: Popcorn Blizzard. He was in a band called POPCORN BLIZZARD. Even better, an early fan of Popcorn Blizzard was none other than a 14yr old SUZI QUATRO (little sister of PB's booking agent).

walter kranz (walterkranz), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with jel, meatloaf's ok.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

(hi jel!)

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i got no beef with him. to me his name is not Beefloaf.

Alienus Quam Reproba (blueski), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

he was good in rocky horror picture show.

Holly (an appletross), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

POPCORN BLIZZARD

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Meatheart Beefloaf and the Magic Horror Picture Band?

walter kranz (walterkranz), Saturday, 12 February 2005 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

POPCORN BLIZZARD

It can't be said enough. BTW wasn't there a Meatloaf movie that used to be screened before the RHPS in the '70s? Has anyone seen it?

And does anyone remember the brilliant band BEEF?

walter kranz (walterkranz), Saturday, 12 February 2005 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Popcorn Blizzard? OMG This thread just gets better and better.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 12 February 2005 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Not to belabor the point but prior to being called Popcorn Blizzard they were apparently known as Meat Loaf Soul. So, you know, it's pretty amazing to think that Popcorn Blizzard was actually an improvement.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Saturday, 12 February 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Archers of Loaf vs. THE Loaf? The part of "Hot Patootie" where the key changes upward and Meat rides around on the motorcycle and sings "HOT PAAAA-TOO-oo-TIE! Yeah! that ROCKnROLL!"? You know that? That is the best fifteen seconds in recorded music ever. So, Meat Loaf wins.

Yes I know...but it's like...Meat Loaf Soul is a great name anyway! I find all this highly entertaining.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 12 February 2005 03:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Along with that 15 seconds of Hot Patootie, add the 'breaking point' in Paradise By The Dashboard Light: "Ah couldn't take it any longer/LAWD! I was crazed /And when the feeling came upon me /Like a tidal wave"...it's just so damn good.
Sure it's a little embarrassing to witness that much emotion coming from
one dude, but the man can sing. You gotta give him that. Plus, cheese
doesn't always equate with badness. Cheese is good for you!!

Sharon Joy Penny (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 12 February 2005 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

My head used to swim from the perfume I smelled
My hands kinda fumbled with her white plastic belt
I'd taste her baby pink lipstick and that's when I'd melt
She'd whisper in my ear tonight she really was mine
Get back in front and put some hair oil on
Buddy Holly was singing his very last song
With your arms around your girl, you try to sing along
It felt pretty good...Whoo!
Really had a good time

walter kranz (walterkranz), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:09 (twenty-one years ago)

meat loaf transcends meat, loaf and meatloaf - he is the archetypal angst of a Morrisey who played gridiron instead of his own cock; he is the intimate groin sweat of a million unfulfilled high school fantasies and the santorium detreitus that remains to be cleaned up when all the cook kids have shot their loads and gone home.

Queen Got out of Hell, Saturday, 12 February 2005 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

On my grandmama's gravestone, I once saw Jim O'Rourke and Monica Kendrick do a duet of "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" back when Fred Armisen was enceeing Karaoke Night at Lounge Ax. I think Sally Timms did an ABBA song the same night.

j. niimi (litotesia), Saturday, 12 February 2005 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

My mother's recipe uses vidalia onions... those are delicious.

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Saturday, 12 February 2005 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I hate the cook kids

For "I pray to the God of sex and drums and rock and roll" alone, classic.

Aldo and everyone who agrees with him = OTM.

How can one say that is not classic?

Joe (Joe), Saturday, 12 February 2005 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The only regret I have is that he and Karla DeVito apparently weren't available for Steinman's tunes on Streets of Fire, "Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young" and "Nowhere Fast".

Joe (Joe), Saturday, 12 February 2005 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

that pic at the top of the thread is Chris Farley right?

eman (eman), Saturday, 12 February 2005 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I compared him to Morrissey on the emo thread too!

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 13 February 2005 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Although who played gridiron instead of his own cock beats me.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 13 February 2005 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Leafmoat

Even me - with my penchant for spoonerisms since a teenager - I must admit I have been outdone in this case. I'd like to shake your hand, sir (or madam), and I salute you.

I fear this thread cannot get any better, but also fear I may have to eat (my meatloaf) words.

He's been doing the publicity circuit on TV in the UK. He doesn't look well.

Apparently, he's changed his name to Michael.
