Since nobody else cares, you horrible people. "In and Out" coming on my iTunes after an ultimately overblown Delgados/Dave Fridmann album = SALVATION

Hey, what about me? I used to be pretty damn crazy about Moev. Haven't heard them in years, though.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

gee whiz. canada is gay.

...if this is to mean because we take it up the ass from the U.S. all the time, then ya,i guess we are,eh.

william (william), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i am listening to in utero right now. i haven't listened to this album in, like 10 years. it's really, really good.

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking of old Nettwerk bands, was Hilt from Canada, too?

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:35 (twenty-one years ago)

ive got a moev album(?) with solomons maze on the cover. in gold. it doesnt show up on AMG though

-- come on sock it to me (keph...), February 12th, 2005.

That's the one I had, too - with plaster-cast faces or some such thing in blue ink on the back. I can't remember what it was called and didn't like it so much. It sort of reminded me of Ex-Post Facto and that sort of thing.

Pangolino again, Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes - I eventually got that one too when I realized I liked them a lot. It was a very beautiful front cover, blue with these white dots and some gold mixed in, I think. But I think they had a girl singer then or something. Didn't sound as good as the later stuff to me.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

as I understand it, they weren't so much on Nettwerk as they spawned Nettwerk.

but hey Ned, did you download that from our good man Noodles? I think I bought the original copy of that on ebay last year, and yes, probably from someone in Vancouver. I've got to like em, but they're a bit much at times.

girl singer= Sarah McLachlan guest vocals?

Kim (Kim), Saturday, 12 February 2005 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

but hey Ned, did you download that from our good man Noodles?

Oh doubtless. Do you know him? ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 12 February 2005 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

was Hilt from Canada, too?
hilt consisted of :: david ogilvie, alan nelson,d.r. goettel, cevin key & don harrison. yes they were from van city.

william (william), Saturday, 12 February 2005 06:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The first thing I thought about was this comp:

http://ring.cdandlp.com/themusiccollector/photo_grande/14376601.jpg

I can't elaborate, since I've been drinking. That's what Canadians do on cold nights, in order to keep warm.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 12 February 2005 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, i didn't realize Hilt were basically Skinny Puppy

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Saturday, 12 February 2005 07:08 (twenty-one years ago)

girl singer= Sarah McLachlan guest vocals?

No, I don't think so. I would have remembered that.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 12 February 2005 08:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Has anyone got "Yeah, Whatever" MP3ed? Howzabout "Say This To Me" by NEO A4?

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 12 February 2005 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I get a Moev song stuck in my head once in a while.
It came out sometime around 82 to 85, and all I remember is one line:
"Why? I don't know why"
And it was this insidious, bouncy hooky tune. Anyone know the song of which I speak?

Brooker Buckingham (Brooker B), Saturday, 12 February 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

In 1989 I loved Moev to teeny tiny bits. In 2005 I can't recall a single note of the music produced under that moniker.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 12 February 2005 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Is NEO A4 on Netwerk as well? If so we might dig that out of the pile.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 12 February 2005 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, listening to "In & Out" now and seeing a gothy teen in an alternate-universe John Hughes movie. How could the afford to hire Bono to sing on the chorus?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 12 February 2005 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I think NEO A4 were indeed on Nettwerk too. That's another act that you just never hear, or hear about, anymore...

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 12 February 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

In 1989 I loved Moev to teeny tiny bits. In 2005 I can't recall a single note of the music produced under that moniker.

Not only is this ridiculously OTM, but it seems to be the story of my ILM life most of the time!

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 12 February 2005 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Duke Street records the inertnet says. Maybe somewhere on those old Spirit of Radio comps lying about used stores they'll have a single.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 12 February 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, Duke Street. Home of Chalk Circle, no? This is becoming the Long-Forgotten Canuckian New Wave Acts thread.

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 12 February 2005 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Always liked the songs I heard on the local (Windsor-based) "alternative" station, but I never picked up anything from them. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled the next time I'm scouring the used and bargain bins.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Saturday, 12 February 2005 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Home to Jane Siberry.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 12 February 2005 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I just listened to the "Dead Time's Exploding Dream" comp ...

-- remember the days when Sarah McLachlan used to fit in amongst late-80's industrial? (a rhetorical question, since I know that all of you are the same age as me and do remember, but DAMN that feels like a LONG time ago now)

-- The Moev track ("Capital Heaven (Remix)") is really good

-- "I'm Going Straight To Heaven" by MC 900 Ft Jesus is still one of the greatest songs ever. I very clearly remember when this single was released and somehow that *doesn't* feel like a long time ago

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 12 February 2005 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Straight To Heaven, Yeah Whatever and Vox (Extended) are all residing under Moev incase you wanna take a look.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 12 February 2005 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

Some years ago I decided I wanted to collect all that 80s Nettwerk goodness. It's pretty easy to pick this stuff up, living in Canada as I do, although Skinny Puppy generally fetches outrageous sums.

But, Moev...I've got "Dusk and Desire," and it is sort of o.k. But I feel like selling it based solely on the awful artwork (thanks again SR Gilm0re).

Is there anything worth investigating further?
