In Donnie Darko, Drew Barrymore's character says that 'Cellar Door' is the most beautiful two word combination (I think it was Tolkien who said it originally.)

Off the top of my head I can only think of two songs that employ the phrase, Neil Young - Needle and the Damage Done ("I caught you knockin' at my cellar door") and Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray ("the cellar door was open, I could never stay away") but I'm sure there's heaps more. Help me name 'em..

Er...there's the John Vanderslice album title, but I don't think he ever uses the phrase in the lyrics. Drawing a blank here myself.

Tolkien didn't say it was the most beautiful two word combination in the English language, he was just using it as an example of a particularly mellifluous phrase in English, phonetically speaking (heh). He thought Welsh had a higher incidence of "cellar doors" and that's one reason he liked Welsh so much.

A local band here that is decent called Ten Missing Days has a "Cellar Door" song. It's okay.

There is a song by The Shirts - "Out On The Ropes" that goes something like:

"...then through the cellar door, you come and throw me on the floor"...

or something....
